Coming soon - maybe sooner than you think...

Operation Subtle Epsilon - Prep at least TWO cosplays for events THIS YEAR.

Phase One... )

20...

I keep having to remind myself that this is FRIDAY, even whilst writing this post...

Now, can I possibly fit ALL the AVENGERS Cycle movies in before the 26th? It might be an idea worth pursuing, as it could be that material in Incredible Hulk may be relevant to The Main Event.

Meanwhile... The "summer break" could be a time for celebration as far as yet another Mission 101 Task is concerned, one I will be MOST happy to tick off - even if it does mean I have to buy the someone involved a laptop. I'm talking
13 - Provide genuine support for Mum as she deals with her "health issue"
For the first time, a quitting day has apparently been set...

And Finally... I now have an important part of a major new craft project in my possession. I just need to buy a sufficient heap of the right kind and colour of paracord, and I can make something VERY special...

More soon.

Back to work tomorrow - and yet again, my day took some time to start to my satisfaction. We had a partial power-outage following ANOTHER bout of stormy weather, but that was all due to a circuit-breaker tripping, not wind or falling trees - and right after that, the Christmas decorations absolutely HAD to come down...

I am only now getting my arse in a seat, to try and make some use of what little remains of my work-break. I'm already exploring options for my loooooong-overdue hardware upgrade - damn all these multi-core processors - and some other shopping may be done before week's end ...ooooh, new LEGO minifigures...

Now may be the time to start planning on, or in some instance complete, some of my major creative Mission 101 Tasks, such as
88 - Create usable stage/screen/cosplay props of three pieces of costume or equipment from my own projects
91 - Create a "personal goddess"
94 - Make a PD-worthy pair of boots from scratch!
97 - Build a diddley bow
- pity we're now short a craft shop...

Time, perhaps, to go looking for more leather and some faux suede, for two projects outside of the Mission "portfolio". Yes, I'm in the mood to make stuff - weather permitting.

Taking a break from some shopping, and that came about for two reasons - firstly, my knotting work isn't going entirely to plan, and secondly, I've had some good fortune. Nothing world-shaking, but hey, I'm doing a double-header at the movies tomorrow to "celebrate", and until then, there's going to be a whole heap of planning for some "interesting times" ahead. Patent Saturday is less than a month away, and I intend to make it a night - no, make that TWO nights to remember!

Busy busy busy...
patentdragon: (Default)
Wednesday actually started on Tuesday, with a phone-call. Our DIY supplies had arrived, and Yours Truly took a day off to head out of town to get them. At the same time, I got to do some of the shopping I missed out on the last time I went "over the bridge", and picked up some craft supplies, in particular materials for Task 88
88 - Create usable stage/screen/cosplay props of three pieces of costume or equipment from my own projects
Some serious knot-work ahead.

After that, the main event - quite literally. By that I mean taking myself and Parental to the Mugenkyo Taiko Drummers, in town on the final leg of a substantial and almost Gillan-esque magnitude. Those unfamiliar with the troupe (including me) might have expected a Japanese line-up, but this is an all-European outfit, and I'm quite happy to say no-one will view that as a shortcoming. Not for one second!

Six-strong, this is a group able to make one serious wall of sound, one that requires only a modest amount of stage set-up; just the right amount of lighting and martial-arts style coreography to tie the whole show together. The music does the talking, and when it's music that makes your diaphragm vibrate, you can only sit and LISTEN.

It was particularly refreshing to sit and enjoy something different, in a smaller venue that is usual for me, but when you get that kind of reaction from a couple of hundred people, that just doesn't matter. Sometimes you just have to "take the plunge" - trust me, it's worth it.

The Verdict: Devotion to your art + head-spinning exertion = an excellent evening's entertainment! 8 / 10 and a provisional sub-*SCORE* for
27 - See one stage show a year
because it was preceded by dinner at the theatre...

I'll be brief.

and by that I mean...

Jeans To Skirt: Pics follow! )

Finished my key "log jam" craft project after, oh, a couple of years...

A surprise parcel was waiting for me when I got back from work - the BluRay triple-pack of X-Men First Class! That provided me with the perfect break material whilst working on my craft project - after something of a false start, things advanced really well, although I have a bit more sewing to do than planned. I do have a day more than expected to complete the job - Monday kept ringing bells, but that's Hallowe'en, not November 1st.

I'll do a bit more sewing while BBC3 sticks on some American Dad, then an early-ish bed, before tomorrow's shopping-trip/binturong-spotting expedition...

Funny day, this one - work was so damned cold that I had to come home early for the second day in a row, then the usual Tuesday break for CSI Miami became a two-and-a-half hour stint to accommodate the premiere of Alphas - "CSI meets Heroes", you could call it. Not bad...

I've been visiting the local craft shop every day lately, picking up bits and pieces whenever I see them, and those components, combined with a couple of purchases at a local fashion outlet, have enabled me to complete some "sub-assemblies" for my Mission 101 Task 91 "personal goddess". I was hoping to get more on Saturday, during an out-of-town excursion, but the weather looks like it'll be sh8, and that could get cancelled.

The month is getting eaten up before my eyes. I may struggle to complete any Tasks in October at this rate... and the bloody cold doesn't help any. Please, let's not have another frozen-solid winter.
patentdragon: (Default)
The Learning Curve continues, and there is unsettling news for all involved. Things just got a whole lot worse, and Brighthawk's life just got infinitely more complicated...

Something I managed to miss last time... Holy sh8 - check out The Avengers Trailer!

Watched this four times yesterday, and again today. Damn, what a birthday present.

And finally... A craft project that just materialised in my lap managed to yield useful test results. I'm feeling a good deal more confident about one of my other Mission Tasks now, but they are soaking up a big chunk of my free time, and other projects are suffering as a result. I need to better manage my time...

Oh, and this should have been posted last night - but my broadband went down at just the last minute. Grrrrr...
patentdragon: (Default)
I've been writing pretty frequently about one Mission 101 Task in particular, and that's
85 - ...and make my own books!
Today, I write something I've sometimes thought I never would, when addressing this particular Task...

SCORE.

- A7 size, 96 pages, glued and blanket-stitched cover, with a double layer of repurposed leather from the back of an old office chair. It's not the masterpiece I'd intended, or the main version I've been struggling with for the last month or so, but it meets the conditions, and I intend to do more.

Also today... We had sun. We had maybe 25 degrees C. I sat on the pier and watched the sun on the water. Life was good.

More please.

Sorry - that's something of a work-related joke: phocena phocena is the Harbour Porpoise. Get it...?

Yes, spank me - I deserve it.

Back to the world of sanity... The Seven Gifts of Patent Saturday are all ordered, or purchased. The last four were acquired in town today, and are smaller, more mundane gifts than the first - but even so, I think I can put another *SCORE* beside Task 65
65 - Celebrate each and every Spiritwalk (May 22) and Patent Saturday (December 1) like they really mean something (which they do!)
Talking of Tasks: I may have just managed to cross
87 - Get a decent computer desk that DOESN'T have a metal frame!
off the list, having been successful in absentee-bidding for a suitable piece of furniture at the local auctions! It'd be nice to be able to declare one task a full *SCORE* this month, and this will most likely be the one.

Unless, of course, I manage to finish my current outstanding craft project before Wednesday, and fulfill
52 - Complete some craft projects I've started
That I can definitely achieve, with a bit of effort...
patentdragon: (Default)
First Saturday in three weeks that I've had the opportunity to kick back, and properly relax... and we've got a last-minute house-viewing. That'll be the lie-in knackered, then, closely followed by a good dose of afternoon arse-up, and ending with "desperately trying to make up for the start of the day".

All of this will, of course, be preceded by a whole bunch of "fall asleep at the keyboard"...

I'm starting to think that "writing hour" may soon become a necessity.

On a lighter note... Found some very useful foam sheeting on eBay, but I'm wishing I'd ordered TWO sheets, given that I have two projects that would benefit from it, but Item 1 of Task 88
88 - Create usable stage/screen/cosplay props of three pieces of costume or equipment from my own projects
seems far more likely to reach fruition soon than
94 - Make a PD-worthy pair of boots from scratch!
- both of which need some careful preliminary design work, but Task 94 involves some extra issues, such as making/getting made some sole units.

Interesting (and busy) times ahead!

Sunday's been something of a day for recovering from yesterday, and so it's not been entirely constructive - BUT a variety of things have been going through my mind, and hands. I've been...
- pursuing some crafting endeavours, using my expanding knotting abilities to equip a new flash drive case with a strap/belt loop (courtesy of the excellent knot-tying blog by Stormdrane)
- finishing off the repairs to a paracord bracelet I had to cut off, replacing the Monkey Fist button with a Celtic Button Knot (that's for the knotting enthusiasts)
- giving serious thought to refreshing my footwear options now that I have a satisfactory storage solution at Site B
- considering the final touches to the craft project that will see me able to put a *SCORE* beside my Mission 101 Task 52 - Complete some craft projects I've started, and
- contemplating an approach to something that could just count towards Mission 101 Task 88 - Create usable stage/screen/cosplay props of three pieces of costume or equipment from my own projects
- so not a wasted day, all in all. Writing hasn't made it out of the starting gate, however, but I'll see if I can get something done this evening. Oh, and I'll be needing to assemble a Mission report for October at some point, too.

I've taken something of a leap forward in the crafting field, mostly thanks to the excellent web resource that is Instructables. I'd looked into its value for my Mission craft tasks, but only now that I became a subscriber, the full potential has been unlocked - ah, the joy of being able to print out customised instructions!

In Today's Episode... The Pandemonicum Symphony: First Movement concludes as all sides evaluate where they stand. Introductions are made, friends are reunited, yet mysteries also remain unexplained - their time will come, you can be certain of that.

Release Notes... Yes, it's early, but it's done now, and all posted within the originally intended window. Like The Man said "It's All Good".

One more step down the road to Reignfall...

Development News... Did some type-up at lunch, but this evening has been work-free - a regular session of Ultima Online got rather stretched - limping back to port after a battle with pirates rather messes with one's schedule.

Elsewhat... Right now, I'm investigating a number of creative options via the excellent Instructables.com - several Mission Tasks could be significantly helped along by this site!
patentdragon: (Default)
In Today's Episode... The Pandemonicum Symphony: First Movement draws to a close, and the battle is, in part, decided. Some have paid a heavy price; others leave the field of conflict burdened by the knowledge that this struggle is far from over, and far more complicated than it first seemed...

Release Notes... Stay tuned for an epilogue. Trust me, this one matters.

Elsewhat... Right now, I'm busy avoiding the Korean Formula 1 Grand Prix result. Oh, the joys of "Create and Craft"...

...talking of which, I'll be hunting down all kinds of projects to carry out using the modest supply of 550 paracord I just got - I really need a new "keychain" - and I'll be continuing my furniture hunt. The Bedroom needs shelves, The Office needs... oh, a decent office chair, that non-metal computer desk I've been wanting...
87 - Get a decent computer desk that DOESN'T have a metal frame!
...stuff like that. A "wish-list" is on the cards, I'm thinking.

But first, it's time to master some more knots - I've already had a few goes at the "monkey fist"...
patentdragon: (Default)
In Today's Episode... The Pandemonicum Symphony: First Movement continues, as battle is joined between a god-like power and a real deity, with a whole world in the balance. Meanwhile, on that world, a tragedy becomes a triumph - but what does this miracle signify...?

Release Notes... I missed a slot, but that's hardly surprising, given the busy weekend and whatever muscle I managed to pull/tear/whatever on Thursday night. My head hasn't been 100% "in the game", but even so...

Development News... I'm currently working on the next Mane-of-Night story - not directly part of The Race To Reignfall, but it does need to get done before the next stage of Darkhawk Season Six. Our heroine gets an unexpected few days off, but relaxation is not on the cards.

Oh, and watch out for some new(-ish) faces - including a character whose first and so far only appearance was back in TDD-102...!

Elsewhat... Gradually, I'm gathering all the equipment for just about any craft project imaginable - could be that I might get something in the craft line finished, and grab me a Mission 101 SCORE!, as in
52 - Complete some craft projects I've started
Yeah, and a room full of monkeys with typewriters will eventually reproduce the works of Shakespeare...

Got my "Peace And Quiet Camp" bedding, but that's about all I have to report on the Task 79 front
79 - Protest against CLAN
Remember that letter, and accompanying article last week? This week's response...?

Zero.

Maybe I should've used the religious angle. People would have at least tried to confront the "hate-filled atheist". My letter this time last year was a bit more geared in that direction, and someone criticised me for "wanting to limit the ways people expressed their faith" - my answer to which was along the lines of "not at all - I don't mind what CLAN do if they're too far away to bother me".

No-one can say I haven't tried. I have received an e-mail or two from another concerned resident, confirming my feelings that the Council have had a very snooty attitude about this whole business...

Listen up, neighbourhood: you better get the most out of me while you can, 'cause this time next year, it'll be YOUR problem, not mine. As long as I'm here, I'll fight. Next time, I'll be in my office with headphones. You have been warned.

At least I'll nail another Mission 101 Task, at the very least, maybe even THREE - Task 79 (see above), Task 52 (craft projects - I'm getting to that), and
23 - Camp outside at least once
Better throw together a pre-campaign timetable - but for now, it's back to the craft projects - one of which may be my "NOBODY ASKED US" banner, if the weather holds...

The golf begins, currently not being rained out, and I'm busy crafting in the peace and quiet, as planned. No writing so far, as crafting is going really well - meaning a yard and a half of hand-sewing - but maybe later, most likely after tonight's Ultima Online hunting expedition.

On The CLAN Front... My "peace and quiet" camp is one step closer to realisation, as I make bedding arrangements. Hopefully, there'll be some dry spells later in the week, to allow me some outdoor banner preparation...

Wow - I could have TWO Mission 101 Tasks in the bag by the end of the month...
52 - Complete some craft projects I've started
79 - Protest against CLAN
but before then, I'm rather looking forward to tomorrow's reaction to last week's "press release"...

It's the day after Task 95, and I'm looking towards my next possible task completion. One task also advanced at the same time as Task 95, and that's
52 - Complete some craft projects I've started
- I "fast-tracked" the jeans-to-skirt project that's been in progress for... years, I guess, and which featured in my "Dawn On Vinyl" photo. There's some fastening to complete, a bunch of seams to finish, but I'd count the result as a partial victory.

Also, I've been thinking about
50 - Create "proper" pieces of art, fit to hang, or give as gifts
- all I need now is some inspiration...

Stay tuned...

This Just In! Brace yourselves, boys and girls - TDD-606 The Ragged Edge is, barring last-minute edits, a done deal!

Also - At The Tennis... Finally, we have a result - ***SPOILER*** Final set: 70-68 Isner ***END SPOILER***

Next On The List... Some CLAN responding, some craft-work, and a chunk of Ultima Online...!
