I've been writing pretty frequently about one Mission 101 Task in particular, and that's
85 - ...and make my own books!
Today, I write something I've sometimes thought I never would, when addressing this particular Task...

SCORE.

- A7 size, 96 pages, glued and blanket-stitched cover, with a double layer of repurposed leather from the back of an old office chair. It's not the masterpiece I'd intended, or the main version I've been struggling with for the last month or so, but it meets the conditions, and I intend to do more.

Also today... We had sun. We had maybe 25 degrees C. I sat on the pier and watched the sun on the water. Life was good.

More please.

Development News... TDD-702 The Learning Curve and TDD-703 Errands Of Mercy are spell-checked and ready to roll. TDD-704 A Ray Of Hope is currently in development, and could be complete in time to roll out directly after TDD-703, if I was to run the episodes one after the other...

Mission News... My Mark II self-made book is on course for completion in time for the Task (85) to be declared a *SCORE* on my next Mission 101 progress report. The Task says "books" plural, but I've put enough effort into this for it to count now - each attempt has been a learning experience.

More on that tomorrow - when we may just *SPOILERS* get some SUN. */SPOILERS*

That's better.

Yeah, I'm rather glad to see the back of this weekend past. It ended with a near "crash-and-burn" for my book-binding Mission 101 Task, as the piece I've been working on went messily wrong, and I retreated to the bed-room to catch the football on the radio, rather than risk pushing my luck.

Today, things went better. I got my new ID card, and that means discounts at several Mission-relevant outlets in town, whilst the book-binding was salvaged somewhat as I switched to my back-up project, and made substantial progress - some gluing, some sewing, and it will be DONE. And that, as far as I'm concerned, will count as a Task *SCORE*.

Now, I just need another Task to complete before the end of the week, and I should be able to hold my head up for a change, come end-of-the-month report time. Oh, hold on - what about
52 - Complete some craft projects I've started
- that continual thorn in my side? I finish off one modified garment, and that, too, is a *SCORE*!

And finally... Holy sZQt - is summer here...?

It really wasn't that much of a surprise that there wasn't much work to do, so I had an early finish. Not that I had much chance to capitalise on that, courtesy of the end-of-week shopping...

However, there was a bit of a surprise waiting for me at home this afternoon; a package from Amazon - but I wasn't expecting anything - until I remembered that I pre-ordered the triple-pack BluRay of THOR.

And that was the whole evening dealt with in one padded bag. except for putting a bit more work into my Mission 101 bookbinding Task (85). I could have the Task down for a *SCORE* by the end of the month...!

Work was a bit of a bust today - very little to do. I took advantage of the early finish and did some research at the local DIY emporium, 'cause I think I may just have "a handle" on another Mission 101 Task; this time it's
91 - Create a "personal goddess"
A previous plan looks to be somewhat unfeasible, but a variation on the same theme. Stay tuned for more news - this is going to be fun!

Meanwhile, Task 85
85 - ...and make my own books!
is a good step closer to completion!

REDSKINS 2-0...

And for the rest of the evening, it's back to the bedroom and DAB radio for live coverage of Patriots-Chargers. This'll probably become a regular thing - I enjoyed Redskins-Giants last week (obviously).

So, How Was Your Day...? Surprisingly productive, actually, as far as my Mission 101. I have a plan in semi-motion for a different design of home-made book... I have made progress with my diddley-bow... and I can chalk up what I'm counting as a classic movie - the 1948 Hitchcock movie Rope. Hey, if the IMDB Top 250 rates this as an 8.0 (at number 234), equalling the already-seen All Quiet On The Western Front (1930), at number 217, then it counts.1I still have a backlog to deal with, but this was a most welcome chance discovery in the TV schedules!

Hmmmm, seem like I'm getting too relaxed here. Gonna post this, and go "low-tech" for thr rest of the evening - don't want the trusty netbook in bits on the floor...

First things first...

Redskins 28 Giants 14

Oooooh, yeeeeaaaah... First win over the Giants since, what, 2006? That'll do nicely. Biggest winning margin in who knows how long? EXCELLENT.

Meanwhile... I didn't catch the late game, simply because it was too damn late, but the radio coverage of the Redskins game more than made up for it. Come the morning, the remains of the latest hurricane were starting to make their presence felt with some early rain, but I didn't get wet - in fact, I came home rather happy...

How so, you might ask? Well, my lunchtime surfing took me to eBay, and what did I find...?

1 VERY LARGE TOPAZ GLASS FACETED TEARDROP PENDANT 64mm and

Jumbo Teardrop Crystal Glass Pandent Free P/P H10 - two items VERY much suited to the task of making a cosplay prop Mane-of-Night energy whip, for my Mission 101 Task 88 - Create usable stage/screen/cosplay props of three pieces of costume or equipment from my own projects. Tasty.

Taking no chances, I bought both.

Talking of Mane-of-Night... I am now "breaking ground" on the next full Mane-of-Night story, title to be decided. The Brighthawk episode I've been ploughing through isn't finished yet, but I felt like a change of pace.

On the matter of Mission tasks... My book-making (Task 85 - ...make my own books!) has stalled again. This attempt got closer to completion than Try Number One, but things didn't quite work out when I tried the next step. No materials have been lost this time, but a couple of steps will need to be redone. Annoying, but I will persevere!

Now, where might I find information on wiring up guitar pick-ups...?

"Slow and steady wins the race", so the saying goes. Well, let's see where that gets us...

Book Report... My latest attempt to complete Task 85 of my Mission 101 - "...make my own books" - continues! It's a gradual process, but I have avoided the pitfall that screwed things last time. There are still steps to foul up ahead, however.

Other Tasks... It's looking more and more as though Saturday is going to be a wash-out. The skies stay clear until Thursday, and then the heavens piss all over us again, right through Friday and Saturday. So long, Task 4...

Splendid.

Oh well, I'll just have to find some other Tasks to complete. My "complete unfinished craft projects" Task (Task 52) could be lined up for s *SCORE*, with a bit of effort, and I could always start watching The Prisoner for Task 96 if I have nothing else to do.

I'm feeling energised, with possibly no way to burn that energy off if Saturday falls through. Time to get busy.

So that's the laptop screwing around again, and the desktop has "an issue" - time for The Little One...

I've been at something of a loose end as a result, and that means I've had the time to do some *gasp* Mission 101 stuff! Attempt number two at making a book is underway, and so far, I haven't buggered the project up. My confidence grows...

Development News... The one thing that hasn't been tripped up or held back has been the writing, as TDD-703 Errands of Mercy picks up steam. I am, to a small extent, drawing on personal experience this time - I grasp inspiration whenever it strikes, and wherever (or whatever) it comes from.

And it's now that I remember the great big patch for Ultima Online, and which machine hasn't been patched yet. Grrrrr...

At least it's not a total blow-out. I got some recorded TV watched, and now we get X-Men. Could be a great deal worse.

Just waiting for some computer house-keeping to finish...

Last night was the bi-monthly police Community Engagement Meeting. We missed the last one due to the stresses and strains of The Move, so we felt duty bound to attend...

The meetings are still held at the school just across the playing fields from Number 99. My former home. The taxi went past the door. I took a look - the first time I've seen the house since I locked the door two and a half months ago...

I could have broken down in tears, but I didn't. The house looks fine, with a new garden gate, and new windows for what was my bedroom. The place is being lived in, and that's fine by me.

Even so, I'd be happy for the meeting to move to a more central venue, to encourage more local people to attend. Seven or so out of thousands isn't exactly what I'd call "community engagement".

Meanwhile... I'm picking up the pieces from my embarrassing admission that yes, I utterly failed to make good on my Mission 101 promise. The bookbinding plan did rather stumble at one of the last hurdles, but I can make good on that this weekend, spare time permitting - there is, I must admit, still tidying and sorting left to do post-Move. It would be nice to have a weekend that's not overshadowed by all that...

At least some woodwork jobs have been dealt with by the necessary professionals. The office window is sorted, all (or most) of the windows now open properly, and no killer winds have been driving me to seek shelter elsewhere, and the step just outside the bathroom door is now presentable again.

Not the most thrilling news, I know, but sometimes, it's good to have a quiet day. Next weekend will be anything but - and I must charge up some batteries for the camera.

"The worst summer since 1993", says the news. Why'd it take you so long to work that out???? For cryin' out loud, just up the coast, they got three times the month's average rainfall in eleven (11) days. I'm regretting being so dismissive of the heat in my office on those rare things this summer, warm days - especially after Sunday night.

Hopefully I'll get my office windows sorted before the weather really turns for the worst (grrrr, another "little" job needing done). Please, let's not have another winter like 2010...

Meanwhile... A busy evening approaches - Ultima Online, CSI Miami, and a bookbinding project that needs a bit of a "push". Busy busy busy!
patentdragon: (Default)
Talk about a "perfect storm" - the wind must be driving cold air right at my office window, 'cause I just can't sit in there right now. The weather report says 9 degrees C minimum for this area - I say BOLLOCKS.

Oh, come on - it's still August, dammit. We had the fire on in the living room.

I'd bring the laptop through, hook it up for a DVD, but I know I'd fall asleep. I do have some Fan-Trek on the trusty netbook, but even that may be too much. My enthusiasm seems to be frozen...

...buuuuuut, I did get my sections of book-cover cut for my Mission 101 book-making task before the weather turned. A bit of work tomorrow, and I could be well on my way to ticking off Task 85!

Okay, time for some entertainment before I power down, and try some writing. At least that seemes to be working out for me right now.
patentdragon: (Default)
Development News... Still nothing quite ready to post yet, but TDD-702 - The Learning Curve IS continuing its development cycle at a pace only matched by the REIGNFALL "push".

Mission News... This weekend, I'm planning on making a book (Task 85), and completing a long-standing craft project (Task 52). That would shift those Tasks into the *SCORE* column...

Move News... ...however, a lot of things could get punted into the long grass if nothing is done about bringing the living room into some kind of usable order, despite much talk of doing so this weekend. Absolutely no "living" has actually been done there yet, and the total length of time anyone has actually been in there counts in the minutes - but part 2 of this season of Doctor Who begins TOMORROW, and a there's a Grand Prix on Sunday - Belgium - and both would be very much improved by an HD TV set-up, which has languished in its boxes since it was delivered. Justice MUST be done...
patentdragon: (Default)
So I didn't go out after all. The jobs I'd planned to fit in before leaving took longer than expected, and that was pretty much it. Couldn't even find a way, or the motivation, to squeeze in a trip to the movies for Rise Of The Planet Of The Apes.

This is the first of me switching on a computer "in anger", however, as I've been preparing some recovered notebook paper for my book-making Mission 101 task (Task 85). Cover card - check... cover leather - check... glue - check... pages - check. At least that's one task I've been able to advance in my two week slot.

Highlight of the day was probably catching a chunk of a Smallville episode called "Crossfire", and realising that the prostitute character is actually wearing a pair of boots exactly like ones I just happen to own. Nice.

Updated with mini screen caps... )

Project shopping is nailed down for next weekend, whatever the weather. Annoyingly, this may end up impacting on movie-going plans - unless I can arrange to catch some Apes during the week. Could be the final trip this blockbuster season...

And I am REALLY starting to HATE this screwed-up chair. Almost sitting on the floor right now...
patentdragon: (Default)
Any big plans for tonight didn't quite work out. I do have all the necessary materials for taking a shot as Mission 101 Task
85 ...make my own books!
but zero motivation...

A change of scenery could do me the world of good, and get me some additional Task components at the same time. And no, I'm not trying to weasel my way out of pending household tasks. It's just going to be a pain in the arse to try and go out of town any other day, dammit.
patentdragon: (Default)
It's a bit weird today - I'm still energised by yesterday, but when I sit down, boy am I tired. THOR gets a full big-screen week starting Friday, so I might just go and see it again on my birthday... :)

The Weekend Of Madness may be over, but where to go from here? There are certainly a good crop of blockbusters still to come, but what else can I cram into the summer? Are we looking at a Summer Of Madness?

I have craft things in mind - I made a set of Emotional Spectrum "prayer beads" in preparation for Green Lantern (June 17), and there is still a couple of Mission tasks along those lines...
51 - Create something to sell, and sell it!
52 - Complete some craft projects I've started
84 - Learn to make my own paper...
85 - ...and make my own books!
91 - Create a "personal goddess"
94 - Make a PD-worthy pair of boots from scratch!
97 - Build a diddley bow
Still got Rush in three weeks, remember (Task 90)... oh, and no CLAN to fanny things up!

Development News... There's every chance I might just have TDD-701: After The Fall finished before REIGNFALL even starts posting! There wasn't a great deal of writing done today - I actually managed to do more yesterday - but progress is progress, and the rest of the story is pretty much writing itself on the scaffolding of pre-planned story threads. A bit more work tonight will push things ahead, maybe even reach completion...
patentdragon: (Default)
Another month approaches its end, and let's be honest, I really haven't done much to make progress on my Mission 101. Some of the monthly Tasks are proceeding - cooking, dinner, buying books, walks, movies, in particular - but some are directly competing for my free time, such as writing and art. I know some tasks are already lining up for big progress in the coming months - another concert, two of the "Road To Avengers" movies are coming this summer, the whole "clear up my crap" thing - but there are still things that aren't seeing any progress, or have even been considered for starting. I don't even take my Mission journal to work with me any more...

I've started the year in not exactly the best frame of mind, although writing for the "REIGNFALL Push" has helped considerably in that respect. There's still stuff on the horizon I have no control over, and the biggest upheaval of my life - the biggest easy excuse anyone could hope for...

So, what do I do about it? Well, how about selecting ten genuinely achievable Tasks and really doing something about them, such as:
18 Renew passport - how hard can it be?
32 Buy commissioned art - deviantART is rife with people offering to do art...
44 Master some origami - I can do boxes - and I already have a damn book!
47 Refresh art skills - Grab myself an evening just to work on that, and we're done!
50 Create hangable art - See Task 47...
52 Complete existing craft projects - ...and another evening should sort this one out too!
84 Make paper - Needs a bit of research...
85 Make books - Just needs some binding research, methinks.
96 Watch the original Prisoner in its entirety - Just buy the damned box set!
99 Get myself an audience - Just keep working at Charloft, for starters!
I'd like to double my number of completed tasks by day 501, if at all possible - May 17th, I'm estimating. That sounds doable...
patentdragon: (Default)
Mission 101 Update... Here's the latest additions to the "Mission List"...

84 - Learn to make my own paper...
85 - ...and make my own books!
86 - Properly organise and chronicle my efforts!

Only fifteen to go, but I'm in no hurry to fill out the list. I still have a few tasks "in development", that may or may not find their way onto the official list, which I may just tidy up and repost as a new pre-dated Master List, as part of Objective 86. This is all starting to come together in a most pleasing fashion, and I fully intend to see as much of it to its proper conclusion as funds and commitments allow...

Stay tuned for more news!
