This morning, and part of this afternoon was dry. The first period of rainlessness since Saturday, when it decided to pour non-stop. Hooray for The Great British Summer!

This is, of course, entirely predictable, as the rest of "The Market" rolled into town last night, and set up their stalls in the heart of town this morning...

Meanwhile... Last night, I came to a decision. I'm being pretty lazy in the evenings, and when I come home from work - and so, I told myself I needed to do more concerning my Mission 101, and I want, in the next two weeks, to make significant advances on at least TEN Tasks. The panic of The Move is most definitely over now, and there simply isn't any excuse any more - except for maybe the fact that The Office gets SERIOUSLY hot, and there's no functioning blinds. It's blackout curtains or nothing - and we're back to the overheating, which was probably the main cause of the freak-out the laptop underwent last week (it's okay now).

"If not actively engaged in something useful - post Move tidying/associated jobs; Ultima Online; blogging; writing - advance a Task!" is the way I put it to myself, and that seems like a fair deal. I had a "Push List" earlier in the year, before The Move, and that was a moderate success, netting me two completed Tasks and some art to hang on the wall, so this is kind of more of the same, but with a time-limit. If this is a success, I may just continue along these lines until next September.

So, What's The Plan For Tonight...? Well... I could watch Sucker Punch, albeit not in High Definition (no BluRay player yet), but I am behind on my "classic films" (Task 28), and I have several on the DVR from before Christmas. I could put one on, and tinker with a few craft/art Tasks while I'm relaxing - just as long as I don't fall asleep, that is...

After that, I could research my "buy a piece of commissioned art" Task (32)... hmmm, this approach might have some "legs" after all.

Another month approaches its end, and let's be honest, I really haven't done much to make progress on my Mission 101. Some of the monthly Tasks are proceeding - cooking, dinner, buying books, walks, movies, in particular - but some are directly competing for my free time, such as writing and art. I know some tasks are already lining up for big progress in the coming months - another concert, two of the "Road To Avengers" movies are coming this summer, the whole "clear up my crap" thing - but there are still things that aren't seeing any progress, or have even been considered for starting. I don't even take my Mission journal to work with me any more...

I've started the year in not exactly the best frame of mind, although writing for the "REIGNFALL Push" has helped considerably in that respect. There's still stuff on the horizon I have no control over, and the biggest upheaval of my life - the biggest easy excuse anyone could hope for...

So, what do I do about it? Well, how about selecting ten genuinely achievable Tasks and really doing something about them, such as:
18 Renew passport - how hard can it be?
32 Buy commissioned art - deviantART is rife with people offering to do art...
44 Master some origami - I can do boxes - and I already have a damn book!
47 Refresh art skills - Grab myself an evening just to work on that, and we're done!
50 Create hangable art - See Task 47...
52 Complete existing craft projects - ...and another evening should sort this one out too!
84 Make paper - Needs a bit of research...
85 Make books - Just needs some binding research, methinks.
96 Watch the original Prisoner in its entirety - Just buy the damned box set!
99 Get myself an audience - Just keep working at Charloft, for starters!
I'd like to double my number of completed tasks by day 501, if at all possible - May 17th, I'm estimating. That sounds doable...

To Be Continued... is go...!

Sort of.

I've finally managed to get the infrastructure (is that the right word?) in place, and everything appears to be just about ready for the first story post. This week, I'll be working on "character sheets" to include in this set-up - oh, and finishing the first story to post there, if I don't get it finished off today.

More as things develop.

Update! Working on character sheets now. These DO NOT count as the references sheets for one of my Mission 101 tasks
48 - Do proper reference sheets for at least six of my characters (0/6)
in case anyone is wondering - but if anyone doing a commission for me, as in
32 - Get at least one piece of commissioned art
finds them useful, that's cool.

New Toy, Day 3... I should have been timing how long this netbook has been running on battery charge - I'd say at least 4 hours, and it's on 43%. Sweeeet.

Pity about bloody McAfee Security Centre - every time it updates, it needs a bloody reboot. STOP INTERRUPTING ME!

Anyway... A kind of quiet day, with Boss doing lectures, and a whole bunch of data that I can't really input without proper trip numbers - result: an early finish, and a circuit of the shops!

Development News... I'm staring to get to a point where there's light at the end of the tunnel for CHA-001 "Comes - THE CHALLENGER!". The story has expanded, as these stories often do, to include cameos from other characters in our new hero's world as they cross his path, but I'm trying really hard to keep it to a single, extended chapter.

In a related story, the debut of this character is giving me an excellent opportunity to make a start on this Mission 101 task...
48 - Do proper reference sheets for at least six of my characters
Working from the bottom up, so to speak, makes this a good deal easier. I have a Heromachine "sketch" from last night, which should count as a start, and the details should be easier to produce myself - hopefully.

Of course, the plan is to do sheets for Mane-of-Night and Glitterthorn, which will help make
32 - Get at least one piece of commissioned art
a lot easier to complete...

More on all of this soon!

Development News... Okay, that's Chapter 7 of TDD-605 "She Returns" "in the can" at last - and probably the longest chapter I've written to date, at around 15 screens at 1024x768. A bit of a crude measure, I know, but that's how I work. That shouldn't be much of a surprise, as it features one of the most momentous incidents in the history of The Darkhawk Diaries, and the Dominion "setting" as a whole.

The chapter in question will be posted tonight, and what should be the concluding chapter of the story as soon as it is done. After that, there'll be a three-chapter Secret Adventure of Mane-of-Night, provisionally titled "Mane-of-Night And The Day At The Races" - a race, a visit to Yafornis for Mariella, and another request from Talona...

Elsewhat... Drafting next week's monthly Mission 101 update; researching art commissions (Task 32), maybe working on some art of my own (Tasks 47-50) once I'm finished writing. The University may be needing me again for a couple of days - s'ok, if The Fnajing System doesn't kick up a stink...
