Mission 101 News... ...and quite by chance, I may just have come across the first movie to qualify for 28 - Watch one "classic" film a month. I still have the end of the film in question to watch, but a) it surely counts as a classic, and b) it's very definitely outside of my normal genres, and c) so far, I've actually enjoyed it!

Meanwhile, I may have come up with another objective, inspired by the freezing cold metal frame of the desk I'm still at right now...

Development News... I'm picking up some of the loose threads from Work Slot 2010.1, and getting back to work on Chapter 4 of TDD-605 "She Returns". I would like to have something to post this month, and perhaps carry on in that fashion from here on, in accordance with Mission Objective 45 - Make regular progress on current and forthcoming "projects", but producing more chapters in total would be sufficient, I'm thinking. We'll see how things go - I just broke into a new writing journal! Hopefully that will be inspirational.

Looking at cameras - I think my current digicam may be dead, having been dropped once too often. A cheap, carry-everywhere "point and shoot" camera and a better "serious" camera are what I have in mind, and I'm not planning on spending more than about £125-150 total - and the new Argos catalogue has several potential candidates. Pity about the reviews elsewhere, tho'...

Okay, that's that rather tiresome Government business dealt with, leaving the way clear for a good wind-down weekend - and, I imagine, a good deal of writing and other creative work. One of those is a new bedroom calendar, which I would have put together digitally, were it not for the complete failure to function of the computer hooked to our printer. I could piece something together on here, port it to the laptop, then hook the printer up to that...

Meanwhile - On Mission 101... 28 - Watch one "classic" film a month...

Oh look, there's a likely candidate - Brighton Rock, on next Friday! I could have had Sands Of Iwo Jima yesterday, but I did have to drop that ball. At least digital TV gives me plenty of movie-viewing options. If I succeed, in seeing this, I'll do a review.

At the current rate... I'm on course to complete 66 objectives, with a penalty of £85 to pay to charity for the uncompleted tasks (£1 for each missed task, with an additional £10 for every ten failed)... but it is early days yet.

I'll do a full first month report some time next week. Stay tuned!

Today (Thursday) was never going to amount to much, as it was kind of a "wind-down" day, but I did manage to make an impact on the whole Mission 101 thing - I have a more organised, more complete list, and I am officially 2 for 101! I'm definitely feeling more "centred" about this particular endeavour, and I may yet come up with enough objectives to complete my list.

Tomorrow is a bit arsed up too, as The System request my presence out of town - and it's probably gonna p!$$ down as well. The weekend takes a bit of a knock, too, 'cause Avatar (3D) only gets evening showings at our cinema on one of the smaller screens this week - oh well, can't win 'em all. More time for writing.

Bah, it's raining outside, and too cold for sitting up any more. Bed calls...

Here's the latest version of my list, reorganised, numbered, and a second objective declared completed!

Our Headline Story... Work Slot 2010.1 is done - pity I don't get paid until the end of NEXT month... *sighs*

Development News... Chapter 3 of TDD-605 "She Returns" is done, Chapter 4 has begun, and all is going pretty well. I want to finish the story before posting begins, but that shouldn't be too long in coming, if I can turn out a decent amount of writing each day from here on.

Now what...? Well, this is where The Year of Change really starts. I'll be updating my 101 List tonight/tomorrow, hopefully including getting the next comic order away by "close of business" today (i.e. bedtime), and maybe even numbering my endeavours. Once I've re-engaged with The System, I'll be selecting several objectives for intensive pursuit - interesting times ahead...

Now here's a cause worth supporting: getting a pardon for Munir and Tokeer Hussain. Reduced sentences are NOT the same thing!

Aaah, Sunday...

Not feeling particularly inspired right now, but that's okay - today is for taking it easy, and any writing is a bonus. The current scene in TDD-605 "She Returns", Chapter 3 is something of an interlude, but it does serve a genuine long-term purpose, addressing an issue associated with "The Unified Response" that I hadn't considered before.

So, let's see - Ultima Online, Being Human, the film Children of God, then finally the last part of the play-off coverage on the radio before bed-time. Tomorrow's supposed to be "Blue Monday", the most depressing day of the year, but I don't foresee any problems going into the last day at my main venue - unless things freeze up overnight, and that doesn't look like it'll happen.

Needing to update the Mission 101 list - got a few things to add, and maybe a numbering system. I must be a good deal closer to my full list by now, and it won't hurt to have a few open slots for last-minute ideas. Next couple of weeks, things should really get going.

Development News... Not so much progress on TDD-605 "She Returns" today, following yesterday's "revelations", but while I've been writing, an interesting side-plot started to form, featuring someone who's been sidelined by recent events. This could be a nice "side-line" that could serve as a handy "pressure valve", for when things in the main story-line get too... intense - and there's every chance they will.

101 Update... not a huge report, but a few things - my charity shop "ban" is officially lifted, albeit with a tiny purchase, and any thoughts of a new PC are looking a lot like they're about to become priority purchasing plans. The current budget box is really struggling now - I'm working from the laptop right now.

Once the work slot is done, I'll pull together a proper report for the 101 Community, and even update my list with a few of the things that've sprung to mind this last week or so - I think I may just have enough to stretch the list to maybe 85 objectives, and leave a few for "afterthoughts". Now, what book should I buy this month...?

Right - almost time for bed. Watch the end of the movie, then in "the pit" - I get a "sit-up" tomorrow and/or a lie-in Sunday!

I'm taking the dive, and posting my 101 stuff at the 101 things in 1001 days Community at LiveJournal! It'll be interesting to see what (if any) feedback I get to my list, now updated to 70 items.

Meanwhile... I am suffering for my snow-snake building yesterday. My spine is grumbling, the backs of my thighs are shrieking - but I am putting up with it all. My muscles just aren't used to working so hard!

Unfortunately, my creation is already melting, but that may just mean a turn in the weather, which will, I hope, make life easier for Work Slot 2010.1. Fingers crossed...!

This is the initial version of my 101 Things In 1001 Days list, started on January 1 2010, and scheduled to conclude on 28 September 2012...

Updates...

21 January 2010 - Tasks completed now number two. List expanded and numbered!
23 January 2010 - Added three new objectives - total now 86.

The list... )

Here endeth the lesson.

- make a kick-ass snowman...

snowsnake.jpg at PhotoBucket.com

Okay, it's not exactly how I envisioned it. A comedy Christmas snow-snake rather than a fearsome scaly predator, and it kicked my ass, in all honesty, but I count it as a success - even though the photo, all I could manage with my functioning digital cameras numbering 1, doesn't show its cute twig tongue. If I do a better one, this will count as TWO of my one-hour walks for this year - I certainly put in the requisite effort!

Development News... Making more progress on TDD-605 "She Returns" - "slow and steady" is very much the current means of attack, and given the recent weather, that's probably the best I can expect. Until the heating comes on, my usual work-space isn't realistically an option, and the seating down here isn't exactly helping the creative process - dealing with that is a 101 List objective...

Talking Of Which... Yes, the Version 1.0 published list is on the way - now, just where do you find shop-window mannequins for sale? I'm in an Allen Jones frame of mind (caution: NSFW!)...
patentdragon: (Default)
101 Things Update... Well, here we go...

- Complete at least 100 worthwhile walks (at least one hour outdoors) a year (1/100, 0/100, 0/75)

Yay, that's an official start to my 101 List. A cold start, but hey, it counts.

I'll be publishing a preliminary list at the weekend - the current total is 63 68, with new items coming almost every day, and every time I look at the list I presently have. Purchase of materials and equipment for the list's various creative elements hasn't gotten very far so far, on account of the weather, which is already affecting comic order deliveries, and could screw up other deliveries. By the time the weather clears, I expect that all the vendors for the gear I want/need will have applied the VAT "re-hike", and my funds won't go as far as I'd hoped. Bleh.

Development News... One screen typed up may not seem like much, but it is a proper start to TDD-605 "She Returns". So far, I'm working on the "light" side of the story, with the "dark" side still in Stage One Development (meaning that the conclusion is the only thing that's been decided so far).

The plan is still to use Work Slot 2010.1 for Season Six structuring and preliminary development, but if that runs aground, at least I have something else to work on. Hopefully, I'll be posting at least one story a month from now on, and a good deal more chapters a year than recently (96 in 2008, and last year only 84). In the "good old days", chapters were shorter - sometimes only a couple of sentences - but that's not exactly a proper excuse...

Needing a proper bedside lamp, especially when it's as cold as it is at night (-15C in the glens).

Sports News... The Redskins sign Mike Shanahan as new head coach. Not Cowher, but still a proven winner, with the experience this team needs to get a meaningful season in The Division Of Death.
patentdragon: (Default)
Development News... I have "broken ground" on TDD-605 "She Returns", albeit to the extent of a couple of paragraphs. Type-up and continuation will be "the order of the day" this evening, I'm thinking.

The 101 List... My list now stands at 58 items, with inspiration striking almost every time I look at it. Motivation isn't exactly at a peak at present, with the continually cold weather, but there is plenty of "ground work" I can do from indoors. I should be able to get a walk in tomorrow, as our printer-linked computer is out of action, and an important letter needs printed and sent ASAP.

Oh, and I think we have a theme song, courtesy of the Singles Chart - although I was about to go elsewhere and pay 20p more for Journey's "Don't Stop Believin'" from a more reliable source *growls*...

Gonna need to assemble a shopping list for necessary materials and equipment. Going to be busy busy busy for the next nine hundred and ninety-whatever days!
patentdragon: (Default)
Yup, it's still freezing outside, but I braved the cold to do some banking, and hunt around for notebooks and gadgets. Not much luck, unfortunately - and sadly the excursion doesn't count as one of my 100 walks a year for my "Mission 101" List - but venturing outdoors was more than just "a breath of fresh air". I'd be happy to do eligible walks in the cold, as long as the pavements aren't as treacherous as this time last year - if they are during this year's Work Slot 1, I'm taking the bus!

Talking of the "101" List... I'm close to having 50 items, at which time I can assemble and publish a first draft. I won't number the objectives until I have all 101, as I'm setting them out in categories (the biggest so far has the working title "My Stuff"), but it'll be good to at least have a preliminary list "in the wild". Think it's time to type up what I have, and work from there.

Development News... I could be starting on TDD-605 "She Returns" very soon, as one half of the story will pretty much write itself. The start and end of the sequence in question are already decided, and this is an independent thread from the core of the story - and you, dear reader, should already have some idea where that is going...

Update! He's gone! Redskins head coach Jim Zorn has been fired. Okay, so what's Bill Cowher doing right now...?
patentdragon: (Default)
Okay, I'll say it again: Happy New Year!

101 Things Update... I haven't advanced my 101 list yet - it stands at 34 items on The Rough Version, and I'll be formalising some of that later, as I type up what I've got, and maybe carry out a little editing. I have several "clusters" of things that can be achieved in one go if certain key events take place, but that's okay, and some inspiration would be useful - must go and look up other people's lists...

I am counting today as my official start point. Last night, my list was on my mind, as I restrained myself from camping-out the nibbles tray - look, I can do it.

Development News... I'm working on a one-episode story that is far from filler, and which should go live tonight. Exactly where The Traveller disappeared to at the end of TDD-604 "Coming Home", and why, will be revealed - and this is something that's been coming for quite a while. Since the end of Season 4 of Doctor Who, in fact... *grins* More on that in the "Release Notes".

Tonight's highlight... What else could it be but the final episode of Doctor Who for David Tennant - c'mon, Dave, knock this one out of the park!

Update... Sorry, no story post tonight. Kinda Doctor Who'd out, in all honesty. Will be trying to get back up to speed tomorrow, honest.
patentdragon: (Default)
Headline News... Yes! Sir Patrick Stewart! And about time too! You can say the same about Francis Rossi (OBE) and Rick Parfitt (OBE) of Status Quo, as well! Shame about Joanna Lumley, who should have been recognised for her work fighting for the rights of Gurkha soldiers - and I'm sure there are many working for charity, or other noble causes that will be viewed as criminal oversights by some, but come on, do we really have to go through the "outrage" EVERY year? There are a whole bunch of scientists and academics on the list, who're hardly "celebrities" - and let's be totally honest; there are people doing "charity work" who should be most thankful they still have jobs...

Meanwhile... Okay, I'm going for it - 101 Things In 1001 Days. I currently have a rough list of 33, and I'll try to have a finalised first 50 list posted in the next week or so, by which time I will have started several of my objectives. Stay tuned for the latest news!

Oh, and Happy New Year, dear reader. Have a good one, get home safe and well, don't be an idiot...
patentdragon: (Default)
...that's how you do a "one-post-a-day month" without even trying.

Anyway, I've been seeing this "101 Things In 1001 Days" thing at The Mission101 LiveJournal Community, and it kinda looks like a good idea, a far better idea than your usual crappy New Year's Resolutions (which I rarely, if ever, manage to keep)... however I don't think I can come up with 101 objectives by tomorrow. I can try and make a start on it, with a view to officially kicking off on it before February 1st, but tomorrow I have my "first art of the year" to prepare - which I complete and sign when the bells ring, as I've done since I don't know when. Pity that, quite often, it's the only art I manage to produce all year. Hmmm, maybe there's one thing to do already.

I may post again later, to "make it official". If I can come up with a decent number of objectives by midnight - say 25 meaningful things I can genuinely achieve - I will actually go ahead with it. Yeah, that would be fun, especially when my world might be about to change substantially in the next six to twelve months, cutting some old ties...
