patentdragon: (unexpected)
Now, I could go on at length about the latest madcap scheme of this Government, which I quickly named the ConDemNation after the election, but it's old, OLD ground. They simultaneously hate and love the unemployed - hate because of those pesky unemployment figures, and how paying for their benefits makes it SO hard to give their well-off mates and donors a big tax cut; love because they give the "Nasty Party" a fantastic scapegoat for all the country's ills...

...and then, I just couldn't be arsed. It's not a symptom of a general "state of meh" that stops me posting blog entries every day, or holds up the writing - I just find myself a little... conflicted. The Government should stop making the jobless out to be such greedy monsters, but then again, maybe some form of voluntary work might be an idea, to "keep the wheels spinning". From experience, I will say that long-term unemployment is NOT a lifestyle worth adopting, for before you know it, years have passed, and you're just where you were at the start, only less likely to find a way out, to do something else...

I will always regret what COULD have been, and I'm not just talking money. If only those in authority - The "Fnajing System" - could just take it upon themselves to GIVE A DAMN, rather than just shuffle paperwork, and make people jump through hoops, pretty much for nothing other than shits and giggles.

The whole... System has to change, not just those claiming benefits.

Development News... That's Chapter 14 of The Secret Adventures of Mane-of-Night - Flight 102 Is Overdue complete, and the conclusion a step closer. Maybe now I can get the "star of the show" front-and-centre again, and shortly thereafter resume posting - and given that the weekend is quite literally about to dawn upon us, maybe I'll have the opportunity to work off some lingering "meh"-ness.

There, I said it. I'm honestly not at my best right now, and since New Year - and I'm thinking it's something to do with the impending work situation. No, not Work Slot One - that's all good - but the real possibility that come March, work may just dry up, and I'm back in the clutches of The F...ing System again. I just can't face that, not after the revelation of the last year. Boss says my contribution has been a big help, and I may have earned myself a mention in the funding request that just went in - could I have done enough to secure continuing funds...?

I'm certainly hoping so - hoping beyond all hope. I want to keep doing what I'm doing; the sort of thing I should have been doing for years, but only just discovered last year. I need this.

Excuse the self-analysis, but it needed to be said. I just hope it helps.

Mission 101 Update...

29 - Buy a book a month from an actual bookshop

I got my first real chance to start on this objective today, and I was really struggling to find something. I didn't have a whole lot of time either, but then I remembered a series of books I haven't read yet... so I now have The Colour Of Magic by Sir Terry Pratchett - and twenty-four more books in the series to read after that! Guess that covers 25 of my 33 months, then...

Another objective commenced - an easy one, but I'm making progress. *high-fives*

Meanwhile... "The recession is over" because growth is plus 0.1%? You have got to be kidding.

Know what? I really wanted The F---ing System to act the bitch today, just so I could call for the boss, and make a formal complaint. I was in that kind of mood. Thankfully, they didn't, and the mood subsided. Let's just keep it like this, okay? You do your job, I'll do mine. Bitch at me for fulfilling my obligations, and we can just go "downtown Ysmault", okay?

Development News... But before then, I managed to sit down, and do just a bit of writing, moving forward with Chapter 4 of TDD-605 "She Returns". I'm in a position to "surge" on this one, as the players are almost all in place for an important gathering that'll fill out the chapter, and should leave the way clear for The Big Story.

Given my screwed-up TV situation, I should have plenty of time for that... *growls*

Okay, that's that rather tiresome Government business dealt with, leaving the way clear for a good wind-down weekend - and, I imagine, a good deal of writing and other creative work. One of those is a new bedroom calendar, which I would have put together digitally, were it not for the complete failure to function of the computer hooked to our printer. I could piece something together on here, port it to the laptop, then hook the printer up to that...

Meanwhile - On Mission 101... 28 - Watch one "classic" film a month...

Oh look, there's a likely candidate - Brighton Rock, on next Friday! I could have had Sands Of Iwo Jima yesterday, but I did have to drop that ball. At least digital TV gives me plenty of movie-viewing options. If I succeed, in seeing this, I'll do a review.

At the current rate... I'm on course to complete 66 objectives, with a penalty of £85 to pay to charity for the uncompleted tasks (£1 for each missed task, with an additional £10 for every ten failed)... but it is early days yet.

I'll do a full first month report some time next week. Stay tuned!
