The road to AVENGERS 2 begins NOW. That Iron Man 3 trailer that was teased last night is now a matter of public record, and for the first non-Jon Favreau Shellhead movie, it's looking pretty damn good. Dark in an almost Dark Knight Rises style, it looks as though Tony Stark is in for a whole new level of challenges - and it looks as though Sir Ben KIngsley isn't going to be channeling his performance as The Hood in the live-action Thunderbirds movie when he plays The Mandarin.

Oh yes - I'm liking what I see.

May 3 2013? I am there.

Meanwhile... Ah yes, Monday Night Football - Lions@Bears. Just past half-time, and why aren't the Lions either closer in this game, or completely blown out? The Bears are pretty stifling on defence - and there's ANOTHER turn-over! A shut-out still looms.

Also... Argh - still a week from getting paid. Hopefully I'll be done with the recent deluge of folder-juggling as the office gets organised - pity there's talk of moving AGAIN.

Still, one can window-shop while one is waiting. I'm sure I tracked down a source of Godzilla toys before - must search through old bookmarks (and old machines), and see if they still do business. I really want to dissuade a certain someone from viewing my collection as a source of free toys...

ITEM! The laptop seems to be on the way out. It is flatly refusing to start up properly at all, after several weeks of occasional faulty reboots, and I have no idea whether it's worth trying to get it sorted.

ITEM! A woman, deaf for her whole life, received a revolutionary new implant to correct her hearing, and all her to hear not only her own voice, but those of her children for the first time. How long will it be before some "deaf rights organisation" declares this an attack on her human rights, and her "deaf culture"? Some people are comfortable with being deaf, and that's okay - but it doesn't give them the right to tell others that they can't seek restorative treatment... and it absolutely doesn't give them the right to force babies to be born without hearing, just to fit in with their "culture"...

ITEM! I'd really like to get the latest comic order in, but I'm wrestling with a potential purchase. There's something I would very much like to own, but can't I possibly justify the expense...?

I can expect an inflated credit card statement this month. Not insanely so - I've had worse since The Move, and the infamous "TV triple-header" - but a bunch of project materials have gone on it, including most recently appropriate footwear for The Personal Goddess. Today, I got comics AND my triple-Play Blu-Ray/DVD of Iron Man 2, which I'll be watching shortly. Still no comic boxes, so some enquiries will have to be made...

Fnaj knows what caused last night's outage. The broadband probably took a huff 'cause it wasn't getting used while I was working on my craft experiment, but the results were worth it - hooray for cling-film and duct tape!

Okay, that may sound rather odd, but I have found a rather ingenious method for creating sewing patterns for things such as gloves. Last Sunday, I was able to use a disposable glove, cover the hand with duct tape, then draw around the necessary seams, cut around them carefully with scissors and BINGO - a custom glove template! I am now investigating giving a certain "Princess" of my acquaintance a make-over in leather...

...and that's a 16" Princess Jasmine doll from the Disney shop - the closest thing I can get, given my limited means, to a Japanese ball-jointed doll. Confusion defused, I hope. If I can make her a pair of boots, that's a BIG step closer to making my own...

And here she is... )

Okay, time for a drink, then a movie.

Today, I read a rather poignant Chinese proverb, which went something like: "Every tower starts at the ground." (on a coffee mug, of all things)

I started at the ground eighteen months ago. Today, I got a new work contract that's good until March 2014.

Cue a theme from Top Gun or something.

Now I know what job security feels like. It feels good.

The latest comic order is here, complete with catalogues. I feel the urge to celebrate. I'm having that... oh, and that...

AND it stopped raining. AND I have working blinds in my office at last. Things are on the up...

Quieter times at work continue - not quite as many hours, but that's okay for now. Sometimes, you have your fill of database- or spreadsheet-wrangling, and you just have to get outside, especially when the weather is as nice as it's been lately. Lunchtimes - quite literally "lunch hours" - are good, no matter how the work or weather goes...

Development News... Every lunchtime, CHA-001 "Comes - THE CHALLENGER!" moves forward, a couple of pages at a time - and tomorrow, I think I'll take the netbook to work, and do my writing directly, cutting out the middle-man of pen and paper. That session could see the story completed, which I'm now thinking will end up in two chapters - but there's still the issue of setting up the "blog" hosting at dominicore.com. An enquiry about that process still needs an answer - guess a more direct approach may be called for.

On Tonight's "To Do" List... Time to get the latest, and somewhat goodie-inflated comic order "out the door"! Oh, and some UO - but not on the netbook!

Note to self... Don't try to watch something like Day Watch when a) it's been about a year since you saw Night Watch, and b) when you're repeatedly falling asleep at the keyboard.

Development News... Damn, this work schedule is messing up my evenings - writing stints have been aborted repeatedly because of falling asleep at the keyboard. I'll be hanging onto my full-hour lunch breaks, where I get most of my writing done, and I'm seriously, seriously considering using my first pay-check to furnish myself with a netbook, something I've been planning on getting for quite a while, so I can go someways towards saving time on type-up, which sometimes feels so bloody wasteful of time and effort.

*does some research* ...and I think we may be on to a winner! Thankfully, my first pay-check for New Work (and very possibly not the last) is just about to be secured. Yippee! Think I'll be bumping up my comic order after all...

...and there's more.

Race Day... Damn bad luck just now for Sebastian Vettel at Bahrain. Pole, and a good start, then *BOINK* stuff breaks...

In Today's Episode... Our heroines start fighting their way out of The Darkening's trap, admittedly using some rather unorthodox methods. The trap works on more levels than either of them imagine, however...

In Today's Headline News... Been awake 16 hours now - AND did that moving job. Result: whacked out. I can't even get my head around comic reviews - the latest delivery just showed up - but I did finally get that Dark Phoenix statue. Pretty!

Try me again tomorrow... whenever that starts.
