Hm - hardly been the most productive weekend, has it? I have achieved part of my Star Trek Online, with one character now in possession of the full Borg equipment set after some serious mission grinding - the other... well, that's not looking very promising, with an additional dozen missions to complete, and me feeling very much "ground out". There are a few things I had wanted to do this weekend, and they didn't get done - which is happening a bit too often for my liking.

I'm not going to allow myself to use the "Weekend Malfunction" tag again this year. It's too easy. Tonight, however, I'm going to do some more Skyrim house-building, then make my way to bed. Hopefully, I can refresh myself enough to get stuff done tomorrow.

Yeah, I missed another day, but to be honest, you weren't missing very much. The "main event" was the "race" to complete the "Borg Assimilated" equipment set for my other Star Trek Online characters before one set of four on-ship devices becomes two sets of three when Season 7 kicks in, and that's been continuing today - there's no guarantee I'll be able to complete the Borg set for both remaining characters, but my Klingon Defence Force representative may be close enough for it to work out...

When not "grinding" episodes in space, I've also been enjoying some downloaded content for Skyrim, in the form of "Hearthfire"; the new add-on house-building system. It's no way as in-depth and customisable as the set-up in Ultima Online, but you do have to build each part of your dwelling literally from the ground up.

In the meantime... I'm 0 for 2 on attempts to watch this week's CSI Miami, as the show's conclusion approaches. Damn.

And finally... I'm considering starting to post the latest piece of the WORLDS COLLIDE run-in starting Monday. That'll give me about a week... mark... before Chapter 4, which should be the conclusion, will be due in. Can I possibly make the deadline...?

Right. DC Universe Online is officially dead to me, as of tonight. I am so damned glad I never found any game-cash cards for this, as anything would have been money wasted. I wasted a whole day of my life just waiting for the fucking thing to install, and I can't finish a single mission (apart from my very first) without running out of healing, getting knocked out about twenty times, and having my gear trashed in the process.

I press the "ESC" key to "flee" one last time. Goodbye, Banefyre - you were never meant to be a hero after all.

Back to Star Trek Online and Skyrim for me. And maybe some writing - actually, I will be having a game-free day sometime very soon, just so I can do that. I may even go to bed early, and "pen and paper" what needs done.

I would report about the Olympic Torch relay coming through town, but I'm simply not in the mood any more. Maybe tomorrow...

ITEM! Games news - in Skyrim, what I'd thought would be a short, simple quest turned out to be a proper - and quite literal - pain in the ass.

Cue tedious Skyrim tale - skip it if you want. Includes possible game spoilers... )

Someone find me a bandit camp, and an unassailable vantage point. I got me a pretty sweet archery set, and a brand new Fireball spell. Someone has to PAY... or maybe I'll load up a previous save, take Barky-Thing to a lonely mountain-top, and Fireball and FUS RO DAH the miserable beast into the afterlife.

ITEM! Talking of archery, there was a piece on today's "breakfast news" about the rise in popularity of the sport leading up to the Olympics, and how it's been inspired by archers in the movies. "Here goes some face-time for Hawkeye in AVENGERS", I'm thinking, but noooooo - it's all about the heroine in Hunger Games, and the lead character in upcoming Pixar movie Brave - also a girl. Not even the slightest acknowledgement of Hawkeye.

That's bloody sexism.

And finally...

ITEM! My last time-sheet was a major pain. It had to be "done online", or so I was informed, and THAT was an unbounded joy - NOT. Once I got the damn thing to work, I was told, at the end that...

*...takes a deep breath...*

...I had to print it out. Twice. They still, at the end of it all, want a piece of friggin' paper.

Madness. Not a "game-breaker", but still... so much for the "paperless office".

Got about four hours' "sleep". Gave up any thought of going to work. Thankfully, the problem has apparently been sorted, and I get to sleep in my own bed tonight. Meanwhile...

ITEM! It has come to my attention that the recent "summer weather" has not caused the roof work to grind to a halt after all (see 6th June). Various essential preparations have been carried out off-site, possibly meaning that the whole job could be done and dusted somewhat sooner than expected. Yaaaaaaay.

ITEM! Got a BIG download running right now, and it's preventing me doing other stuff (like Skyrim). Hmph - may just resort to watching a movie. Or running Skyrim without online support...

ITEM! Yikes! The new Rush album, Clockwork Angels, is due out NEXT WEEK. Oh, I have it pre-ordered, OF COURSE.

I really have to organise my time better. These last-minute posts are a bit of a cop-out, aren't they...?

Sometimes, you just can't put down a pitched battle for a fort.

However, I didn't spend the whole evening fighting Imperial soldiers or Borg. District 9 was on TV for the first time, and that was my first opportunity to see it again, so I sat and did just that. I am late on my Prometheus review (short version - it was excellent), but I intend to rectify that tomorrow. Yes, tomorrow.

No, really.

Renovation News... THURSDAY. That's the day the long-awaited roof work is due to commence. About time.

Gaming News... Heehee - stole TWO horses from the Imperials in Skyrim. First one got killed by a bear before I could work out how to dismount, and the second disappeared as I "fast-travelled" to another city. Justice? Hell, I was stealing from THE BAD GUYS!

Meanwhile... Time to book Prometheus, I think. Update! Done. I may even expand the excursion to a double-header - Men In Black 3 sounds promising.

...really MUST do my posting earlier in the evening...!

I now have THREE games gnawing at my free time - welcome on board Legend Of Grimrock, a purchase I've been planning to make since I heard about it. It's a pretty slick "classic dungeon crawl" in the Dungeon Master style, but I don't expect to be devoting THAT much time to it, not now I'm doing so much better at Star Trek Online and Skyrim...

I'm being a naughty boy lately - I haven't been playing games this much in years... and there are other things to attend to - AREN'T THERE?

Is... is this... summer? It sort of feels like it. That probably means it won't last...

Yeah, that's about all I'm going to write tonight. It's not been the best of days, with somebody letting their aversion to the "heat" get the better of their common sense. Yes, a LOT of my time is computer-focussed, but just imagine what life would be like if I didn't have that...?

I wouldn't have a fucking job for a start, and wouldn't that be lovely?

I am done with the matter now - and I am now going to go and play Star Trek Online, and maybe new purchase Legend Of Grimrock until bed-time.

Think I'll be glad to get back to work. There, I get peace and quiet.

BIG gaming session - haven't played so much of anything for YEARS. If this lappy was going to let me down, it would've done it by now...

I'm really going to have to "turn it down" a bit, if I'm going to get anything else done. It's not easy when you're two ranks from the top of Star Trek Online and just took part in a major-league city storming in Skyrim. Both games are really "comfortable" now - and there's nothing cooler than giving The Big Dragon-Shout and knocking giants of humanoid and spider origin flying...

Heeheehee!

Star Trek Online Update... I'm a mission away from Captain. I'm going straight back in once I'm done with this.

I'll be chronicling key moments and anything else at Clan Tyran - The Legacy. I already have some ideas, and a sneaky way to combine STO and Skyrim! watch and see...!

Hopefully back to a sensible routine shortly.
patentdragon: (Default)
Ooooohkay - stuff in Skyrim is going better now that I've turned the difficulty level down. So, what next? A calm, measured approach to training within the game? A quiet day away from the "stress"?

Naaaaah - let's give Star Trek Online a try! Watch the several hours of download creep by! And just look at the unrelenting tutorial mission that goes ON and ON and ON, with its wacky ship controls!

Please tell me there's some kind of "holodeck" for practising with the flight controls, or this is a game that will get old very quickly...
patentdragon: (Default)
...all together now...

"...and I think to myself..."

"...what a wonderful worrrrrld..." *urgh* Time to reload...

Yeah, Skyrim is "one of those games". Of course, it's been quite a while since I last played anything other than Ultima Online. Right now, what I'd like is enough gold to buy a house so I could securely dump all the shite I seem to be carrying...

So, anyone know where Andur's amulet is in the Hall Of The Dead in Whiterun? C'mon, put a half-smile back on my face...

Yes, I blew a posting slot. But... but I have Skyrim now.

Alas, no screenies to celebrate, 'cause they're corrupted somehow. Poo.

At least the new laptop can handle the game.
patentdragon: (Default)
Still no SKYRIM. There were comics, though - but somehow I missed Avengers vs X-Men #1 (grrrrr). The trial version security suite on the laptop is showing evidence of a problem that's been around for over TWO years.

...but My various appointments are concluded, and my time should be my own for a while... until the start of Work Slot 2 next weekend.

Okay, lets get that Mission 101 done...
patentdragon: (Default)
Today's Highlight... AVENGERS was awesome again, with added perfect lighting for the mid-credits teaser (thanks, NPH). I can start to see THOR 2 coming together.

Back to this movie - news just in is that AVENGERS did indeed make £15.7 MILLION in its opening week. Sweeeeeet...

Today's Lowlight... Security issues on the new machine. Surprise surprise - MacAfee is involved. Cue several weeks of trying to sort all this shit out...

Oh, and my Mission 101 report for April is likely to be delayed a bit more. Bugger.

And finally... No SKYRIM today. Poo.

Oh, and no CAPS-LOCK light on the new lappy either.
patentdragon: (Default)
AVENGERS Update... Holy crap - $218 million dollars already? They're projecting a total AVENGERS gross of half a billion after it opens in the US, Russia and wherever. There's another trailer out for The Dark Knight Rises, the third of Christopher Nolan's Batman trilogy, but... well, it's not exactly setting the world alight somehow...

For crying out loud, TDKR, you have Anne Hathaway in thigh-high boots (about the only thing AVENGERS was lacking ;-) ). There's your win, right there...

Wonder whether Skyrim will show up in time for me to kick off the game on my birthday.
