Yours Truly is well stuffed, Capaldi is The Doctor, my IMAX cinema-going is paid for for about the next two years or so (thanks family), a Minecraft glitch appears to be a transitory thing...

...Oooooh, unexpected Stargate! The TV movie that ties up the loose ends left when SG-1 ended - now this requires my full(-ish) attention...

Catch you tomorrow, people-folks. It seems that I have a full evening ahead - this, then Troll Hunter. Should be fun.

A big day for incoming post - that's a big bit of Christmas shopping done... and I am now in possession of a pretty sweeeet new pair of boots, in prefect timing for Patent Saturday. Excellent!

Yeah, it's been another thin week on the blogging front, but The Stargazer Project - Season 2: The Edge Of Chaos has been getting, and holding, the majority of my attention. It doesn't help that the Doctor Who 50th Anniversary Special is TOMORROW, and that next week - and the week following - will be dominated by "PatSat"...

Excellent viewing last night: An Adventure In Space And Time, dramatising the origins of the phenomenon that has been - and, I am certain, continue to be - Doctor Who.

What's that? A Gravity review? Oh crap, I have rather dropped that ball...

...ok, a quick one: A good reality-based space disaster movie, that makes the silence of space a character in its own right. Somehow, I was expecting MORE, such as 3D that would genuinely dazzle, but that was not to be. Movie Of The Year? Naaah - a solid 8/10, but all-out space opera (Star Trek Into Darkness!) wins out in that respect.

Look for the tie-in short movie that's going around, which provides an insight into the other end of a conversation in the main movie. It's very effective.

There. Not my best, but it's that or nothing!

ITEM! So, I finally got that Christmas shopping done, a day later than planned - not that much of a hardship, in all honesty.

ITEM! An issue of concern about one of my net domains has cleared itself up - adding still further to my next credit card bill, which was going to be bigger than normal anyway.

ITEM! I had been thinking of going to Wales to visit The Doctor Who Experience on or before the show's 50th anniversary, but like a bunch of other stuff this year, it simply didn't... materialise. Instead, however, I will be going to the cinema showing of the 50th Anniversary TV special!

All in all, not an entirely unproductive day.

Guess I know what I'll be watching after Agents Of SHIELD.

Meanwhile, the build-up for the 50th Anniversary of Doctor Who hits fever-pitch with...

Looking VERY promising. Welcome back, Paul - shame it's been so long, and for so short a time.

I hate working on Saturdays - buuuut the money is better. Not quite the "fair trade" it might seem, but there you go...

Meanwhile... it seems that two hundred and ten American Doctor Who fans are to be congratulated for their restraint, and not one peep of secret information has leaked out concerning tonight's Season finale. A secret about The Doctor has been revealed - maybe NOT what was expected - but we did discover the truth about The Impossible Girl...

...and something more, that we DIDN'T expect, and which is clearly planned to feature BIG in the 50th anniversary continuation of this story. I'd say this episode is the best of this "demi-series", which has had several nice ideas, but a bit of a lack of "Ooooooh!" Splitting a season like this stops you from getting the absorbing "grand arcs" of previous years - although I would like to see more of Vastra, Jenny and Strax (Strax's weekend off in Glasgow was a good laugh).

Season: 7.5/10
Episode 8.5/10

Anyway.... that's Saturday dealt with. Now - at last - for Sunday, and two straight lie-ins.

Day 1 of the exams, and a very relaxed business it was. Just the way it should be - and I managed to get a good deal of writing done, for the first time in TOO long! A chapter that was due for comepletion MONTHS ago is pretty much "in the can", and a decent chunk of the next is on paper, for write-up at lunch tomorrow.

By the time I get home, some old furniture will have been cleared, and the stage (hopefully) set for getting those damned windows in!

I am, however, not holding my breath.

In the meantime, the internet isn't exactly the safest place to be if you're a Doctor Who fan, 'cause someone in the US screwed up really badly, and sent out Season 7 Part TWO DVDs, due for release not long after the season finale shows at the weekend, and the episode "The Name Of The Doctor" is now "in the wild". Please, people, let's not ruin that landmark story for everyone else, okay...?

So, what happened today...?

Not a great deal, to be honest. Oh yeah - the 50th anniversary for Doctor Who seems to be taking shape, as it's confirmed that David (Ten) Tennant is making an appearance. Any chance of, I guess, Eight (Paul McGann) and Nine (Christopher Eccleston? Both had runs that were way too short - especially Eight...

Bloody hell, it's cold.

Doesn't help that my Minecraft masterpiece is taking shape in a snowy land...

Talking of which, I better get back to that. Next week, however, there'll be something else demanding my attention...

...the return of Doctor Who! Finally, the 50th anniversary can finally begin.

Hard drive space concerns have been dealt with*, even though that ate a chunk of the last day of my "long weekend" I *gasp* did manage to get some writing done - as in finally typing up a chunk of the latest Mane-of-Night story. I really need to do more writing, but I'm just not in that groove right now. PLEASE can we get these damn windows sorted so I can FINALLY get organised? It's nearly TWO YEARS since we moved!!!

(*I was going to place a reservation on a 3TB desktop HD at Argos, but noooo, it's not in stock, 'cause it's "discontinued". Oh great - too late on the deal that made this item cheaper than two of the 1TB portable models I just got for video management. Typical...)

Elsewhat... Yay - the Budget has something for me! Income tax will only be charged after the first £10,000 sooner than previous planned! Probably means I won't be getting many more refunds, though.

Also... there's a new Doctor Who trailer. A week and a half to go!
patentdragon: (unexpected)
Okay, that WAS supposed to "hit the presses" before midnight, but didn't. It's no big deal, to be honest, 'cause there's a whole bunch of not a lot to report on...

Oh, here's something: this just in - Doctor Who returns March 30th!

Excellent...

Meanwhile... Can I still get Wreck Of The Nemesis ready to begin posting at the weekend? With a two-day posting interval, I'd have most of next week to get Chapter 3 into shape - sounds like plenty, if I get things moving...

At least the cold spell is loosening its grip. Or so it seems...

This Just In... Another "death in the family" for Doctor Who, following the announcement today of the passing of Mary Tamm, who played Time Lord Romana alongside Tom Baker's iconic fourth incarnation of The Doctor.

When a TV show lasts long enough to see its 50th anniversary (next year), I suppose you have to expect these things, but damn it's sad to lose another companion, following Caroline (Liz Shaw) John and Elisabeth (Sarah-Jane Smith) Sladen, and let's not forget The Brigadier, Nicholas Courtney...

Let this be the last, at least until the 50th Anniversary is over.

Elsewhat... Huh. Guess I was more right than I expected, in saying Summer would last only a day. We're back under cloud, but thankfully no rain today - maybe we will get the scaffolding down by next week.

And finally... Ooooooh dear - a flag mix-up at the Olympic Soccer, and there's that chorus of doom-sayers chiming in, often blaming Scotland, 'cause the North Korea match was taking place in Glasgow.

With video materials produced in ENGLAND.

They should be thankful there wasn't an anthem screw-up as well. The theme from Team America - World Police, which notoriously mocked the North Korean leadership, wouldn't have gone down well.

And finally finally... One day to the Olympics opening, two to the start of "CLAN Plus". Will the sound from the latest expansion of "the Gathering" disrupt the lives of those near - and not so near - the venue? We will just have to wait and see - perhaps I should take a look at the site...
