The SCORE Column...
It's not been a particularly good month for The Mission as far as completed tasks go (let's be honest, that means none), but I have made a good deal of progress towards several objectives..
In Progress...
- I've completed the first year of Task 3 on August 5th, completing the equivalent of 100 hours of outdoor exercise, in walk form, with four months to go. Having work to go to certainly helped a great deal, and I may just modify this task to reflect my unexpectedly rapid success.
- Work also means that Task 6 Lie-ins at weekends only has been extremely easy to maintain. In truth, it's sometimes really hard to encourage myself to have a lie-in at all.
- Task 9 Cook dinner once a month has also been easy to keep up - I could easily double up on this.
- Task 29 Buy a book a month from an actual bookshop hasn't been a problem either. I'm actually ahead of myself already, thanks to grabbing Wicked and the first volume of Scott Pilgrim - but its sister task...
- ...Task 28 Watch one classic film a month is faltering. Potential candidates are always on at the wrong times (weekday lunchtimes, basically) and so far, the charity DVD scheme I devised
- Comics orders are consistently going in at the very least a week before their due date (Task 42) - my, how exciting...
Special Feature: August 1st...
The big success story in August came at the very start, with another concert trip. At the start of the day, I was expecting to have started on Task 19 Visit five cities not on my regular "list" and chalk up another of the five concerts for Task 90 - but I got more than I bargained for. Yes, I had a good time in Perth, seeing the genius that is Seasick Steve - but at the end of the show, we were treated to a signing session in the concert hall foyer, so I got to shake the man by the hand, thank him for being an inspiration... and so, I got the first "score" for Task 31 Thank three personal influences in person on top of all that!
Coming Soon...
Cascading tasks like August 1st seems like a good way to make progress with the Mission as a whole. Some of my Tasks are unofficially designed to work this way, but it will take some greater effort on my part to make those cascades happen. Hopefully, the opportunities will soon be a whole lot easier to line up, as funding stops being a restrictive issue...
I may have a new Task or two by the end of the month, almost filling out my list. Never imagined that would be so easy.
Until next month, fellow Missioneers, have good luck, have good fun, and don't do anything... yeah, right, like that's gonna happen...!

...find a classic in one of the town's multitude of charity shops... buy... watch... return...isn't yielding anything (so much for altruism). I'm seriously considering modifying this to Watch a classic movie for each month of my Mission's duration, which is a whole lot more manageable.
- Comics orders are consistently going in at the very least a week before their due date (Task 42) - my, how exciting...
