From NASA pic...

-23 Degrees Centigrade. That's the lowest temperature recorded in the UK for as long as I can remember, and maybe even much longer. That's definitely going to affect my work schedule - I can see me using buses to get to my venue, and when I get there, the place might even be closed 'cause it'll be too expensive to heat. There's talk secondary school exams are certain to be hit, and universities surely can't be far behind - we may have gotten off lightly on the snow front, but it still gets BLOODY COLD, and there's about nine more days of this, according to the weather bigwigs...

Holy crap... This isn't just "winter", this is worse than anything we were possibly ready for, thanks to the "global warming" panic-mongers. Councils are supposed to "ration" grit and salt? ARE THE GOVERNMENT INSANE?

I'm just thinking we should be glad we have still have some of our Christmas excess to live off...

*dreams of cooked breakfasts and hot chocolate...*

Welcome to Canadian weather. Fortunately we expect it to get this cold so our buildings and infrastructure are designed for it but most of us don't like it. Take advice from someone who knows winter. If it is very hard to get around then stay at home. It makes it easier on the Government services and keeps you safe. Nice snowman BTW.

(Came over here from 101 in 1001.)

Ironically in some global warming models the UK may get much colder if the gulf stream collapses. Work is continuing in that area to understand the factors that keep the UK relatively warm considering how far North it is.
