I've been thinking - and that's never a good thing...

Let's just assume a whole bunch of potential spoilery about Torchwood: Miracle Day ahead... )

BONUS! For the best laugh ever, read the main article, then read this comment, but make sure you have fresh underwear to hand, as you may just p!!! yourself laughing...

Now, to the office, and some story posting...?

Tonight, the conclusion to Torchwood - Miracle Day aired, and...

Detecting potential spoilers ahead...! )

The Final Word... A brave attempt to explore new territory, and give Jack more to do than die and be moody, but the world-changing threat seems short-changed by what actually ends up on screen. 7/10

ITEM! Saturday is looking... better (could be about the best day of the "summer"), and that means Mission 101 Task 4 could still be a goer. This time tomorrow, I'll make my decision - and stick by it.

ITEM! And so, Torchwood - Miracle Day nears its conclusion, and whilst the story has thrown up some interesting questions - how do you deal with people who simply will not die? - it's taken too many episodes to do not a whole lot. The very fact that tonight's episode began with "Two months later" and at the end, we still have very few answers, except for the involvement of *SPOILERS* some colossal Earth-penetrating vagina or whatever the hell that was supposed to be *END SPOILERS*. I suspect the last episode will be heavy on decompression, and light on resolution, which is a big shame for such a grand concept.

The previous series, Children Of Earth was better.

ITEM! I rather get the feeling that Apollo 18 and Troll Hunter might not make it to my local cinema at all, just like Monsters last year, and my opinions for seeing Apollo 18 at all are drying up pretty rapidly...

Hey, even late night showings might be worth a go. If I can stay awake, of course - at least I'd have some kind of excuse today, in that there were footsteps on my bedroom roof at around 7am this morning. This was, however, expected...

So, now there's something GOOD on TV again - Torchwood: Miracle Day. A proper review would probably require seeing a few more episodes to see just how things develop, I'm thinking, but so far, we have a very interesting premise - the "death of death" - the return of The Man Who Cannot Die (yeah, it's Jack), and some really nasty stuff well in keeping with the darkness inherent in any venture with the label "Torchwood"... and, I believe, a huge perhaps incidental hint at the cause of it all, when Jack makes an intriguing choice of pseudonym...

*** SPOILERS...? ***
"Owen Harper..." - yes, the other undying man, who never healed injuries, just like the victims of "Miracle Day". He was apparently "released" from his condition stopping a nuclear power station from going critical at the end of Season Two. I'm thinking he was atomised, and has spent the last two years or so circulating in the atmosphere, so that everyone has breathed some of him in. Add some "hits the world all at once" trigger - like a solar flare - and there's your freaking "miracle"...
*** END SPOILERS ***

Why the reluctance to give a more in-depth review? Well, the "new team" is still to properly assemble, and once we get past the "Mexican stand-off" stage, then we can talk. Final Verdict: A good start that hasn't pulled any punches. Roll on Episode 2! Score: 8/10

Meanwhile... As mentioned previously, I'm restarting TDD-702 title to be confirmed, and things are working out a good bit better. I might even be able to build up some momentum this weekend...

Oh, hold on - there's Potter 7.2 to go to tomorrow afternoon. I'm getting the feeling that, just maybe, the final Potter will so totally bogart Screen 1 at the local cinema that I'll have to go out of town to catch Captain America - The First Avenger on a decent screen on opening day. Bugger.

Change of plan... I'm trying the new monitor as a second display for the laptop, which has a beefier graphics capability. It still doesn't like running IMVU at full-screen, though - something even more powerful is going to be needed, but this should still be okay for Ultima Online tonight...

I'm trying out a few other things in the meantime, and obviously there's a limit to what this laptop can churn out. I will have to go for a desktop machine that can do the crazy stuff - and I had budgeted for something a bit more pricey than the basic-level box I've been struggling along with these last few years. Just wish I knew something about graphics cards.

Development News... Right now, there really isn't any. Work on the new Brighthawk story has ground to a halt as the latest shopping "cascade" absorbs a bit more of my attention than I'd like. I'll be restarting at the weekend, perhaps taking a different approach, and folding some important current characters into the mix.

Now maybe a Glitterthorn story might be fun - just a one-chapter snap-shot like the Mane-of-Night one I just completed...

Tonight's highlight... At last - new Torchwood - mmmmm, and in HD, too!

And so, we come to the conclusion of our latest dose of Whoniverse - Torchwood: Children Of Earth...

***WARNING*** Spoilers highly likely after the cut - you have been warned! )

Despite the shortcomings of Day Five, they didn't detract too much from the series as a whole. Some brave, non-PC choices were made, in that the good guys don't always get to ride off into the sunset, proud of their victory. I'll give this a "punching well above its weight" 4 out of 5.

Most Valuable Player... Peter Capaldi a.k.a. John Frobisher. Powerful stuff as he portrays a man caught in the whirlpool of politics and morality, until there is no choice left but the unthinkable. I salute you, sir.

It's going to be a LONG time before we see anything quite this good on TV again, I suspect.

In Today's Concluding Episode... Mane-of-Night tries to unwind, but life is never that easy - especially when a shocking revelation crosses her path...

Includes a startling glimpse into the future!

Release Notes... After plenty of work, and some post-release edits to correct some formatting, this story is done, and the seeds are sown - in more ways than one.

Development News... And things are going nicely on MoN-203 "Mane-of-Night And The Wayward Child". Chapter 1 is still mid-development, but it's a good start, and I won't be rushing this one. No sir.

Tonight... The conclusion of Torchwood - Children Of Earth. Someone will be kicking ass and taking names - if The 456 actually have either. Best thing on TV all year, I'd say. Watch it.

In Today's Episode... Mane-of-Night And The Watcher From Beyond approaches its conclusion - can Mane-of-Night salvage a final attempt to save Yafornis from disaster from the ruins of the Skylance-X mission, or will someone else have to employ a more drastic solution...?

Release Notes... Am I glad the next Darkhawk story is ready to go, as it will be the next thing to "go live".

Development News... I was intending to take a couple of day's break, but parts of the next Mane-of-Night story are already coming together. The momentum is there, so I better make use of it while I can.

You Have Been Watching... Torchwood: Children of Earth - Day Two, and things go from bad to worse for our heroes - but not for the audience! Can the British TV audience withstand five consecutive days of this kind of intensity? I just hope the story can continue to deliver in this fashion, hopefully concluding with thoroughly grisly deaths for the deserving, and more moments like ***SPOILER***Ianto coming to the rescue in quite splendid fashion, and with thoroughly heroic timing ***END SPOILER***. It's Doctor Who meets 24 - what's not to love?

Roll on Wednesday, 9pm!

Development News... I love it when something pops up out of nowhere. Just before Torchwood, I was working on TDD-603 Part 4, typing up existing material and laying the foundations for the final "push", and an opportunity for something emerged. I needed an explanation for just why One Character had come looking for Another Character, and the answer to that was born like Athena from Zeus's forehead - and with it came a nice solid link to the events of the epilogue, and a tasty bit of foreshadowing. I think today's hospital/shopping trip has been refreshing for the creative process, and I could actually have the whole "anthology episode" finished by tomorrow. Seriously.

No, really.

Really really...

Watch me finish this post, do a bit of web "housekeeping", then it's game time.

Tonight's Feature Presentation... In the beginning was The Word, and The Word was ROCKING. Today saw "Day One" of Torchwood - Children Of Earth, and damn, it was GOOD. We get some nasty goings-on in government (no surprise, really), some sweet insights into the family lives of our heroes as the reduced cast allows for more character exploration - and then everything goes to hell. You'll smile, you'll laugh (OMG not the Torchwood-mobile!!!), you'll cry - you'll not be able to wait until tomorrow night for Day Two! Highly Recommended!
