The System is bullshitting me. Someone has failed to pass on essential information, and I will not have my "arm twisted" because some fucking time-limit has expired. This crap has screwed up my summer, and I'm done with it.

Meanwhile... Watched Pirates... Curse Of The Black Pearl (excellent!) this morning, and My Neighbour Totoro this evening (also excellent). I certainly needed Miyazaki goodness to defuse my pissed-off-ness...

...no, sorry - still there.

FUCK THE SYSTEM

There. That's better.

"That" being an invitation to lunch and wedding-present viewing at SiL's parents' place. A lovely meal, lovely weather, and more butterflies in one place than I've ever seen before. I missed most of the Hungarian Grand Prix (watching the highlights as I type), but I can't rightly complain. No writing got done, but my batteries are certainly recharged to a decent extent, so I should be able to make some in-roads into the next Darkhawk story - unless The System manage to screw me around again, and they have two opportunities this week, on Monday and Tuesday...

I already know the Grand Prix result, but I want to see how it happens before I celebrate.

...sated the raveous beast that is The System for another two weeks...
...posted possibly the most promising job application I've sent off for ages...
...got a refund on the piece-of-sh!t "baby" digital camera I bought yesterday...
...sat out on the pier, and got a bit of writing done...
...got home and continued what I started on the pier...
...watched a big chunk of Disk 2 of the "KISS Symphony" DVD...
...ate dinner...
...watched CSI Miami and Lost...
...planned a cinema "double-header" for tomorrow...
...worked on a new Secret Adventures layout...

All in all, not a bad day.

In Today's Episode: Revealed in The Darkhawk Diaries - Medrox's and Omiga's "grand scheme"... or is it?

This story is moving towards its conclusion, and the way is almost clear to advance things significantly with what is to come

In Today's Headline - Ooooh, how big and hard of you... A variety of acts at this year's Edinburgh Festival are apparently going to blatantly break Scotland's recently-passed law on smoking in enclosed public spaces, branding the ban as "censorship". One of the most vocal is Mel Smith, once a well-known British comedian who'll be playing Churchill in a play at the festival, who said:

"I've often wondered what the Scottish Parliament does. Maybe this is an opportunity for me to find out. The thing I would like to say about it is that it would have delighted Adolf Hitler. Adolf Hitler, as you know, was anti-smoking. You couldn't smoke at Adolf Hitler's dining table, so he'd be pleased, wouldn't he? Congratulations Scotland."

(from this site... (material not endorsed by this writer))

Oh, so being anti-smoking makes me a Nazi, eh? Who exactly was it, pray tell, that used lethal chemicals on a whole bunch of people in an enclosed space - again, and again... and again, several million times?

Is this an over-reaction to a washed-up comedian's desperate attempt for some publicity, perhaps? Like it or not, giving your audience an increased risk of cancer isn't fucking art.

Sorry, that just pulled my chain. Think I'll give the Festival a miss, somehow.

Anything else...? Funny how The System tells me earlier in the year that it would be really, really difficult to get a work placement at the local University, but now it's actually easier to get in with the Uni (not yet confirmed, but likely) than it is to get back on the placement I'd already started at the public library in town. Insane. Trying to understand these people is sometimes like trying to decipher Lost.

It was hot today, but nothing like as bad as yesterday, with occasional breaks in the heat, and a refreshing breeze. Pity that didn't help my FTP troubles.

Meanwhile... Think I'll carry on watching the "Rush In Rio" DVD. It was way too hot to do anything else last night, and a satisying change from staring at the same old web-pages for a couple of hours...

...although I did find out that there's a group doing Star Trek fan-episodes just next door in Dundee - Star Trek - Intrepid. Interesting; wonder if the library will allow me to access the downloads, via their handy-dandy broadband connection...?

Something to do tomorrow, I guess, as well as paving the way to "Lockdown".

Okay - Rush, then bed.
patentdragon: (Default)
Agh.

It's been roasting today, and plans have been pretty much shelved. I can't get the next Darkhawk chapter ready for posting today, I can't get photos from today's excursion uploaded because I can't FTP anything (and don't get started about these image-hosting things - I don't pay for web-space just to use some ad-laden "free" service)...

I would say "drop in tomorrow" but that's likely to get screwed up too, as The System pick what's possibly one of the hottest days of the year for me to meet with someone to talk about another placement - to be honest, I'd rather not bother at the moment. My holiday plans got fucked up, my laptop plans are no nearer being consolidated.... hell, I don't even know if that's the right word, and I can't be arsed.

Come back tomorrow. Hope for the best.
patentdragon: (Default)
Well, it actually did rain - for about three minutes before I went out - and I went out prepared for the worst. It hasn't rained since, in the meterological sense, at least...

- "The System" appear to have arsed things up again, and a return to "work" isn't as certain as it looked. Wonderful. Also, not my fault.

- It's Thursday, and still no news of the computer getting any closer to being fixed - just like last time. I got seriously pissed off with this at Christmas, and I'm not standing for it again. If I don't get word of repairs being undertaken by this time tomorrow, someone else gets my business as far as a laptop is concerned. This "can't be arsed" attitude needs to be punished. Final warning.

Screw it. I'm going home, I'm getting my lunch, I'm getting a bath. Correction - make that "home - lunch - phone computer shop - bath"...

In Today's Episode: "There - it's done."

The future of the Confederacy takes a turn for the darker in The Darkhawk Diaries - and Darkhawk finds the extra weight of responsibility deposited on her young shoulders.

Okay, so what happened...? I've been a bit "impaired" the last couple of days, having pulled or strained an abdominal muscle - whatever it is, it hurts, and that's all that matters. My activities have been somewhat limited - hence the lack of an entry last night - but I seem to be over the worst of it... hopefully.

"The System" requests my presence tomorrow, which should lead to a prompt return to "work". No complications, and everything should be fine.

Nice day today, some of the time - I stayed busy, knowing I'll be out tomorrow. Good weekend ahead, by the look of things.
patentdragon: (Default)
Thankfully, nothing got delayed today by the usual Tuesday double-header of CSI and Lost - I'm just glad Prison Break gets its first showing on Monday...

The System tries to dig its claws in again tomorrow. That's three times I've had to make this particular trip in the last six months or so - but the weather should be good (or at least better than Friday), so I can make a (minor) shopping trip of it. Mustn't grumble, I guess.

Meanwhile... The hard work continues...!
patentdragon: (Default)
So... I managed to salvage a fairly decent day out of today - where was that rain, then? Maybe it wasn't as sunny as I'd been hoping, but at least I didn't get wet.

Slipped The System's talons again, effective the moment I stepped out of their door - but I may only get to enjoy a couple of days out of the next two weeks. Ah well, anything that helps things along...

Still haven't been able to pre-book for X-Men III. Something to do with the Da Vinci hype, perhaps...?

Also... That Secret Adventure is coming along nicely. It may become a two-parter - but I better get it done fairly quick, as I'm starting to catch up on myself again.

And Finally; Coming Soon... ...Cybermen. Sweet.
patentdragon: (Default)
In Today's Episode: Content Advisory - Darkhawk indulges herself as the latest story continues in The Darkhawk Diaries...

Ooops - just eleven minutes late. I finally managed to decide how best to reorganise the graphics set-up, enabling me to post this chapter in responsible fashion. I decided not to take this particular scene too far in case it detracted from the core story too much by being too intense. It's a chapter that can actually be skipped in its entirety, as there aren't any core story elements in it, but it may still have an effect on the future.

The DominiCore Forums should be fully operational soon.

Meanwhile... Well, that's the library "job" shelved (heh) for now, and Saturday brings the start of the uni work. I'm going to have to get up early two Saturdays in a row - how inhuman is that...?
patentdragon: (Default)
Oh great.

Friday, a day I'd been expecting would be entirely free, is probably going to be wet. Yuck...

That's a day of relaxation kinda knackered, then.

Meanwhile... It's hilarious to see the Hallelujahs getting into a foaming frenzy about The DaVinci Code. It's the Danish Cartoons all over again, and those Bible-bashing asshats think they can throw their weight around, demanding a disclaimer be attached to the film.

Guess they're just sensitive about works of fiction that just might be mistaken for fact.

Other Sacred Texts... Newly added to the DVD library: The Blues Brothers Collection - one of my all-time favourite films, its not quite as good sequel that still has its moments, and a documentary disk all in one package, all for £12.99! Not bad, not bad at all.

It would help, however, if the DVD player wasn't acting up. Grrrrr...

Still waiting on advance booking for X-Men III. Self-pampering is just over two weeks away!
patentdragon: (Default)
In Today's Episode: Darkhawk gets ready to set sail with The Zhada'rien in the latest chapter of The Darkhawk Diaries.

There should be a prelude chapter for the next Secret Adventure coming up soon, if I can get a moment or two's free time. Lunch breaks have been productive, but

Meanwhile... Week Four becomes Week Final - for the time being, unless The System takes badly to me actually earning money for once...

I just hope the Uni get their act together -

...excuse me...

*squit!* There goes another of Lolth's foot-soldiers. Can't leave a window open these days because of "The Giant Spider Invasion". Anyway...

- before I'm supposed to start the invigilation period. Somehow I doubt it, because some fricking people - namely the unions - are that desperate to claw back some of the power they lost a while back, and didn't regain when President Tony got elected. I can do without another quarrel, but I'll be pretty pissed off if this costs me holiday/laptop money, and gets me more grief from The System. Hey, stupid, it's not my fault that the wannabee Scargills are demanding things their way, or not at all. Assholes...

Also... A boot refund equals a happy me - I just wish they'd had a more transparent way to find out about it. I end up short on the deal to the tune of two doses of P&P, but at least I get back the money to pay for a year's worth of DominiCore hosting...

...oh sorry, that's what The System is paying for ;-)

And Finally... Damn, Lost is certainly steaming ahead...
patentdragon: (Default)
In Today's Episode: Darkhawk mixes business with pleasure as she goes in search of the mysterious Fayreen in the latest chapter of The Darkhawk Diaries.

A new item on the agenda for the "creative summit", when and wherever that's likely to happen - a cohesive style and layout for DominiCore - but that's not exactly helped by the fact that images still aren't coming through on the news page. Could that be something to do with the hotlink protection facility? I'll have to see if I have to add the news sub-domain to the list...

*goes to do some maintenance*

...ah, okay - that was the problem. Check out the news page now, and see the previous "Darkhawk Nexus" in its new location in all its soon-to-be-renovated splendour.

Busy, busy, busy!

Meanwhile... University lecturers throughout the country have been taking strike action over pay, which could possibly impact on the running of exams - if any run at all - and that could impact on my being employed, and paid, to help oversee those exams. The uni and the lecturers here had come to an agreement, only for the teachers' union to say "Oi, you can't make a deal on your own!"

This needs to get sorted out, and fast. If I go to the extent of discontinuing "work" at the library, but there's no real work to go to, there'll be hell to pay...
patentdragon: (Default)
A "tricky" Darkhawk chapter is all but "in the can"; a "meanwhile" story for The Secret Adventures... has arisen from events chronicled elsewhere; DominiCore is gradually coming together...

...yep, things are looking up creatively. Meanwhile, the time for more exam work is fast approaching (next weekend), during which time it would take just twenty-seven hours - three and a half days - to earn the same amount of money I'll be getting for all thirteen weeks of The System's "work experience" thing. Wheeee!

I could still do with that "creative summit" I mentioned before. Even just a bit of pure "unwind" time would be nice.
patentdragon: (Default)
A LOT of stuff for Tuesday has been postponed for several reasons. These include:

- the first two episodes of Season 2 of Lost, and
- attempts to recover from "work", which was more of a grind than usual, 'cause the system (lower case) went down. For an operation depending so heavily on computers, the library seemed to manage okay - but once the offline system was up and running, there was a rush to reshelve the returned books.

At least I got the lunch I promised myself, and I succeeded in completing another Darkhawk chapter. "Affirmative Action" is growing in length, without getting very far - guess it's time to dive right into the "special content" chapter that's now looming before me...
patentdragon: (Default)
Bro and Jen came to visit, so there hasn't been time to make any progress on project-work since the last posting. Guess that's this weekend knackered then...

Meanwhile... It's Tuesday, so that means it's also my birthday. Pressies have been delivered, and await my attention. Wish I wasn't "working" today... *sighs*

Going to bed once "...Animal House" finishes. Before lights-out, I'll try and make some pen-and-paper progress on the Darkhawk story that should be starting (probably) tomorrow. One scene is causing all the problems, and once that logjam is cleared, it should be plain sailing into the next major story, and the big story-arc that's imminent...
patentdragon: (Default)
In Today's "Episode": As promised - a bonus "extra" for The Secret Adventures Of Mane-of-Night...

Meanwhile... That's "The System" satisfied for another week. Things have gone pretty well so far, but library work is hardly exciting - unless someone chooses to make it exciting...

Here's the pitch: If you are the first non-smoking young lady of the Asian persuasion (Indian or Oriental) to come to the library where I'm currently "working" and ask me - I should be the only guy there - about a book called "The Patent Dragon", I will buy you lunch. If you're wearing thigh-high boots at the time (and I have to be able to see them), you can add dessert to that!

If you do it this Tuesday, by the way, you will be making my birthday a day to remember, and you will also win a deluxe seat at the NPH for "X-Men The Last Stand" on opening day!
patentdragon: (Default)
In Today's Episode: Is the "asylum seeker" hiding something? Can Mane-of-Night find out what the secret could be? Tune in to the latest chapter of The Darkhawk Diaries, and maybe there will be an answer...

And The Rest... So much for Friday being a "half day" - it actually takes me longer to get there and back than it takes to satisfy the requirements of The System. Hey, it gets me out and about, I guess...

...unfortunately, that isn't as easy as it might normally appear. Every step is uncomfortable thanks to medical treatment. :(
