Okay, I've been promising to cover the more personal angle concerning Monday's adventures in Glasgow. Let's tell the tale in pictures...

So, there was a concert...

...and this time, I dressed for the occasion, wearing my sexiest boots, facing the world and all it had to throw at me...

...not knowing that, come kicking-out time, I would find myself halfway up THIS slope...

Forty-five degree angle + five-inch heels = a bit of a predicament, yes? About as bad as it could be, truth be told. The shortest climb was up, so that's the way I went - but the street at the top, whilst level, was basically a building-site, with no through traffic, and at the other end, nowhere to go but down. Forty-five degrees down...

Sometimes, uncomfortable decisions have to be made - and so, the boots had to come off. Challenges are what Spiritwalks are all about, even if accepting them seems to go against the whole concept.

In the end, everything worked out. I found my way back to the main street, found somewhere to grab a bit of dinner and get properly dressed again. Maybe it would've helped to know the venue better, but sometimes, your situation will, it seems, try to get the better of you.

The secret is to know when to bend, and not to break.

And so, another special date goes on the calendar... August 12th.

...I need to extract some frames from video I shot the day after Spiritwalk 2 so that I can finish off my event report, but I haven't even got said footage off my camera yet. Right now, I am sitting in my redecorated "office", at my brand new desk, and it is oh-so-goooood. This is a serious milestone, and I can't possibly NOT enjoy the moment.

Is "The Move" finally finished? Not quite - I still have all kinds of stuff to shift into The Office, and get properly organised. Maybe even strike off another Task...

53 - Deal with my "overspill" of crap

I'll try and finish things off concerning Spiritwalk 2 tomorrow. Promise.
patentdragon: (unexpected)
Sorry, I haven't managed to collate my thoughts and photos, mainly because my head is still spinning somewhat, AND I today received the stunning news that, tomorrow (nearly today) the "Office" will be done, and shortly thereafter ready to be returned to service!

So, more tomorrow, I guess.

The gig review... right. How about this...?

Where to begin... well, how about that rarity at shows I attend - the support act? Local "sci-funsters" (use that and I insist on royalties ;-)) Nanobots were a complete unknown to me, but their half-hour set was in fact quite entertaining, gaining increasing support throughout from a crowd clearly eager for The Greatest Party Band In The World. Good work!

So, the stars of the show weren't long in following, and what an opener: classic and serious fave Planet Claire, setting the tone for the evening as Athens, GA's finest turned the clock back and dug into the first album on several occasions - we also got Lava, the truly splendid Dance This Mess Around, and self-confessed "punk song" 6060-842 - and of course one song no show could ever be without, but that's the other end of the set, stopping off along the way at (in no particular order) Girl From Ipanema Goes To Greenland (solo vocals from Cindy Wilson there)... Is That You Mo-Dean... Whammy Kiss... Love In The Year 3000...

Personally, the highlight has to be Roam, one of my all-time favourite songs, and an absolute JOY to sing along to. It's always so good when a band seem to realise that there's something they can do to completely make your night, and they go ahead and do it. Crazy, I know, but hey.

Most people will probably know the band from the major hit that was Love Shack, and that was what ended the set proper, getting perhaps the biggest reaction of the night - and a "Tin roof - rusted!" from everyone at the appropriate moment. An encore was inevitable, for one song was conspicuous by its absence - and I don't mean Party Out Of Bounds, with which the band returned to the stage. Rock Lobster (See? Got there in the end!) was the song to end the evening, and it wasn't until the lights came up that you remembered you were in a much more... intimate venue than I usually frequent.

An entirely unfamiliar venue which had something of an unwelcome surprise on hand for Yours Truly - which I will most likely expand upon tomorrow...

The Final Verdict... Brilliant. A wonderful opportunity to see a great band, and in no way short-changing my expectations. THANK YOU. 8.5/10

Wow. That was quite the adventure - and there's more to tell than I can squeeze out tonight. I'm tiiiiired... *frowny face* I'll see what I can come up with tomorrow.

What I can say is this...

Yeah, I had rather forgotten about the "gap year", until I realised I had actually managed to complete Task 90
90 Go to five concerts.

Yeah, not the best photo, but it's pretty much all I got.

While I've been away, "The Office" has been progressing, and is finally approaching the painting stage. Hard to believe this is ACTUALLY happening at last!

Woke up early.
Found draughty gaps in the NEW "Office" windows.
Knocked my external hard drive onto the floor - but thankfully didn't (apparently) bugger it.
And still found time to get the room ready for redecoration...

Surprised I found time to pack for tomorrow!

In the meantime, something FUN:

Just what I need to keep my screwed-up day going.
patentdragon: (unexpected)
Stuff has been shifted, but there's still plenty to do - and I haven't gotten very far with packing for Monday, and other related business. I think an early night may be necessary...

I am in NO WAY ready for Monday, so far.
patentdragon: (unexpected)
Hmm. So much for having a relaxing couple of days leading up to Monday.

The redecoration of "The Office", aka "Ace Labs", is due to commence on... (you guessed it) MONDAY, so said facility needs to be cleared as much as possible beforehand. Beforehand meaning, of course, Saturday and Sunday...

*sighs* Well, the work does need doing - but why does it feel like the universe is doing all it can to impede Spiritwalk 2? The last few days, I've been terrified of messing up my ankle any more...
patentdragon: (unexpected)
And so, the "break" begins. Maybe my lead-in to The Big Day isn't quite as leisurely as I'd anticipated, but any bumps in what was meant to be a smooth road won't mess thing up much. So far, my "injury" doesn't seem to be likely to "bench me", if I can avoid aggravating it. Stay tuned for further news on how that goes!

In the meantime, relaxation - not so far punctuated by industrial noises!
patentdragon: (unexpected)
The laptop started making a very unpleasant noise last night/this morning. Switching off and restarting did not seem to fix things - cue a second straight early night, plagued by the fear that my gaming machine was about to fail on me.

Perfect sodding timing, right?.

So far tonight, following a trip to the local repair shop that revealed nothing (and thankfully cost nothing), things have been fine. No industrial-type fan noises, Kerbal Space Program still hates me - at least there's new Family Guy... awww, it's finished... (and followed by many-time repeats of American Dad)
patentdragon: (unexpected)
The windows are finally IN.

Peter Capaldi is Doctor 12.

I tripped over some stuff last night, and tweaked my ankle. Talk about perfect friggin' timing...

...but I seem to be okay, walking-wise, with less than a week to go to Spiritwalk 2. I have just got to take care on it, if everything is to go to plan on Monday.

Please, universe, I have earned this.
patentdragon: (unexpected)
The preparation begins in earnest...

...holy crap, did The Yogscast just get a name-check in a YouTube TV ad? What strange times we live in...
patentdragon: (unexpected)
Damn. I had ages to prepare for last time. This... this is different. Meanwhile there's still window-stuff to deal with... and I just end up sounding the same, over and over again. That's it - I'm done talking about the sodding windows. I'll report in when they're finished, nothing more.

Oh, and I have booked a seat for The Wolverine, one of the last of this year's summer blockbusters. Opinion seems positive, but since when has that mattered? I see what I want to see, not someone else's recommendations... for that way lies disappointment.

Talking of which... it looks like PACIFIC RIM isn't faring much better. How is that POSSIBLE...?
patentdragon: (unexpected)
Tomorrow, it's TWO WEEKS to Spiritwalk II. Crazy.

But before then, I have to fit in another visit to the cinema, for The Wolverine. Would've gone on Friday, but stuff got so messed up, I wasn't in the mood. Wednesday looks a better bet!

And then, there's more exciting news, in that I have managed to do a bit of pen-and-paper writing that may just spark me into full creative mode again. I'll type this stuff up, and see how I go from there!
patentdragon: (unexpected)
Is tomorrow "W-Day" for my "office"? Well, it's been long enough...

I didn't post last night 'cause the thunder was right overhead - or so it seemed - as the day expired. So, what's happened in the meantime (and since the last time a blog-post was remotely coherent)? Well, preparations are well in hand for Spiritwalk II (19 days to go...), AVENGERS 2 has the official byline Age Of Ultron (interesting...), and I bought several games and DLC packs during the just-ended Steam sale... including modern world supernatural MMO The Secret World, which is rather interesting, and quite different from other such games I've been playing...

Oh, and there has been *gasp* WRITING. Just not very much, mind you. I could be reviving things once the office is sorted - just wonder how long THAT will take.

PACIFIC RIM Watch... Total UK box-office in two weeks: £5.14m. US Gross (as of 22 July) $70,334,709 (USA). Budget $180,000,000.

Come on people.
patentdragon: (unexpected)
First things first: PACIFIC RIM.

Warning! Spoilers launching in 3... 2... 1... )

The Final Verdict... delivers an elbow-rocket assisted punch to the face of most of several summers' big movies. An absolute thrill-ride. 9/10 (provisional, pending second viewing on a regular screen)

Meanwhile... Yes, you heard me right - Spiritwalk II. August 12th, The B52's in Glasgow - last time, I had years to prepare. This time, almost exactly one month...
patentdragon: (unexpected)
Go see PACIFIC RIM.

Seriously. It is so very rare to have a film that absolutely, totally does "what it says on the tin".

More in-depth coverage once I've recovered. Movie Of The Year? Very likely.

Next Major Event...?

Spiritwalk II
