patentdragonIn a televised debate on Islam and free speech, a studio poll was taken about showing the "Danish cartoons", and 69% said YES.
Channel 4 said there wasn't sufficient editoral reason to show the cartoons anyway.
Free speech does NOT exist on British TV.
Update: Looking at the Channel 4 message boards after this programme, it seems to me that there is no word in Arabic for "trolling".
The way I - and only I - see it... There CANNOT be "true freedom of speech" so long as individuals exist. No two people will take the same statement the same way - just look at any internet message board, and you'll see that is true. One person's joke is another's mortal insult is another's incitement to blow the first person up - shit, it's not as easy as it looks, is it?
Let's be honest - this whole thing is about religion, and religions are just going to have to "take their lumps". No religion should be protected by law - it's either that, or have them all protected, and sorry folks, that just isn't going to wash. If you believe, your faith should be strong enough to weather such storms as a musical, or a bunch of cartoons - and what kind of "true believer" are you if you need "Man's Law" to shore up your beliefs?
Sod it. I'm through caring. Stick 'em all on the B-Ark, and hope they take the disease you contract from dirty telephones with them...
...uh oh - you can guarantee that'll get misread, particularly by people who've never read or seen The Hitchhikers' Guide To The Galaxy...
Back to sanity... The next Darkhawk story is slated to commence tomorrow. Story inventory is in place, and while the football's on, I'll do some more development work, with a view to sketching the story out to completion. It might not be the ideal, professional writer's way of doing things - but nobody's paid me for anything... yet.
