Fresh In This Morning... August's comic delivery! It looked like a bit of a thin month, but boy was I wrong!

Highlights:- New Avengers 22: Luke Cage, you da MAN!
- Civil War 3: Even web spoilers can't hurt this baby.
- Savage Dragon 0: Unexpected, but very welcome.
- Black Panther 18: T'Challa, you lucky bugger.
- Eternals 2: The coolness continues!
- Devi 1: Interesting...

New Avengers 22: I wasn't a fan of Luke "Power Man" Cage before he started appearing in this title - in fact, I was more of a fan of one of his enemies, Nightshade - but as the "strong guy" in "plain clothes", he's been the closest thing to an "ordinary guy" in the team for years, and strangely enough, that made him stand out all the more, and maybe a bit more effort's been put into writing his character. In this issue, it's the dawn of the *spits* Superhero Registration Act, and Luke Cage handles the complications of this with style. You da MAN!

Civil War 3: That's it. No more comic book web-sites until this series is over. Two issues in a row, I've run aground on Spoiler Reef, and even though it'd take something far bigger than either of these revelations to ruin this title, I want to open those pages and NOT KNOW WHO RETURNS OR UNMASKS TWO WEEKS IN ADVANCE.

Excellent writing, and fabulous art - the "new secret identities" segment was great, and the "little things" bit makes you realise just how the SRA tramples on a hero's freedom. Oh, and Tony Stark, some friend you are - asshole.

With Cap all the way, and looking forward to a double ass-kicking for Iron Man AND SHIELD Director Maria "That Bitch" Hill. Oh, and a spanking for Ms Marvel, earned in New Avengers... ;-)

Probably the best comic event I've ever experienced, and that's only because I came into the comics fraternity just too late for Crisis On Infinite Earths.

Savage Dragon 0: The long-awaited origin of a great character - and boy, I didn't see any of that coming, people. So that's what it takes to turn a tyrant into a hero... *ouch*

Nice work, Erik.

Black Panther 18: Not a regular pick, but how can I pass up on The Wedding Of The Century? If I'd picked Storm's dress, I would've said "screw the designer crap, and go with the classic Dave Cockrum-designed original costume with the awesome boots". Hey, T'Challa was in costume...

...but, does anyone take Xavier's fatherly words seriously? He seems to have been managing to screw things up pretty well recently - but not as bad as Tony Stark, and he manages to poke his browned nose around the door here too for a nice, brief confrontation with Cap.

I'll be picking up the "World Tour" issues following on from this. Could be quite a ride...

And finally... can I hear 7 Seconds Of Love's "Cocaine Kate" in the background, with the title changed to "Ororo Munro"? Sung by Yours Truly, perhaps...? *grins childishly*

Eternals 2: I like the characters, but I was half-dreading this when it was announced, due to the involvement of one of the gods of "kewl comix", Neil Gaiman. That dread was definitely misplaced, and combined with the art of John Romita Jr, whose Uncanny X-Men stuff I could never quite get to grips with, this has already become an eagerly-awaited book. Having started strongly, this continues in the same vein - all it needs now is for partiesbysersi.com to point to an actual web-site, even if its just a splash-page. Hey, the BBC, in producing web-stuff for Doctor Who, even went to the extent of putting up a site for a company providing ice-cream for visitors to Torchwood Manor, just so that a link on the Manor's web-site actually went to a proper site!

Devi 1: Virgin Comics finally launch, and whilst the story doesn't get past a mythology-laden "Previously..." sequence, I'm interested to see how this develops, especially as it comes from a culture not known for its comics, and hopefully this won't become the next Vampirella.

I could probably do even more coverage - and most likely will - but this entry is already long enough to merit a "cut" tag.
