Review: Doctor Who 6.13 The Wedding of River Song Two half-seasons on, we finally come to the conclusion of this year's adventures - so how does it all shape up?
This climactic episode starts in perplexing fashion as time itself seems to go on vacation, periods in history all stacked up in one corner. Hold on, says the viewer, what about The Doctor's death? What does all this MEAN?" Patience, sweetie, patience!
As the episode, and the mystery unfolds, we encounter some old friends on the way to the appointment with destiny that's been hanging over our hero's head all year. Since the start of this second half of the 2011 season, there's been a ray of hope, and that light shines so very brightly as The Doctor makes good on one of those "fighting chances"...
However, we don't get all the answers yet again, and that will rile some people. I'm happy for the story-line to continue and develop in the long run, but no amount of cool flesh-eating skulls can make up for a nagging sense of "Is that it?" I did like the nod to The Brigadier, as a fitting tribute to Nicholas Courtney, though.
Overall a better episode than most this half-season, but maybe it needed something by way of a bigger revelation. Perhaps in hindsight, when this storyline reaches its conclusion, it will all work out just fine, and this will be the ONLY way this story could have been told. We shall see...
The Final Verdict... Things fall in place - but not everyTHING. Could we be heading for a B-I-G 50th anniversary wrap-up...? Score: 8 / 10
