Ah, Hell No...
19 Apr 2011 23:54In the week leading up to another season of Doctor Who, some awful news; we just lost Sarah Jane Smith - actress Elisabeth Sladen. Playing companion to The Doctor over two regenerations - Jon Pertwee and Tom Baker - and lead character in her own series, The Sarah Jane Adventures, Liz Sladen was lodged firmly in the hearts of many Doctor Who fans - I came to like Sarah Jane even though she took over from my all-time favourite companion, Jo Grant (played by Katy Manning). She helped pave the way for the more confident companion, opposed to the out-and-out screamer, and many of the more recent companions, such as Rose, Martha, Donna and Amy, owe a great deal to her influence.
I believe another series of SJA was ready to broadcast, or close to being ready. Guess that's going to be a little tougher to watch, when it comes around.
So, that's two now gone from what was for me the truly "classic" era of Doctor Who. The voids between the stars just got a little bit greater...
