...I'm loving the first THOR trailer. This movie kicks off the 2011 blockbuster season, and looks to be doing it in AWESOME style. There's also a teaser for the third Transformers movie, which has the slightly cumbersome subtitle "Dark Of The Moon", but still looks pretty interesting - if it's better than Revenge Of The Fallen, it will definitely be worth checking out!

Right now, Green Lantern sadly isn't looking like the safe bet it was. The first trailer for that now looks a little underwhelming - and guys, I should be jumping up and down with glee about that movie. It seems that DC just don't have the motivation to make their movies kick ass like Marvel's do - I guess DC are waiting for the third Chris Nolan/Christian Bale Batman to deliver for them in 2012, which it certainly should. Unfortunately, DC are putting all their eggs in two baskets right now - one with a bat on it, the other with a big red "S" - while their competition are developing all kinds of properties. Thor (sorry, from now on that's officially THOR)... Captain America... X-Men - First Class (I'm expecting some groovy fun to be had with this one)... the second Ghost Rider - and that's just 2011! Add to that Avengers, Deadpool, another Wolverine (prequel?), the Spider-Man reboot... and let's not forget Iron Man 3.

Okay, I may sound like I'm flying the flag for Marvel, and yes, the majority of comics I read are Marvel's, but honestly what has DC got to offer in response? They could have had a Wonder Woman movie in production long ago, but naaah, they couldn't be bothered to get behind it - they could've enjoyed big nostalgia success, riding on the back of this year's A-Team big-screen outing, and the very popular Wonder Woman TV shows. Does DC have anyone else who can front a big-screen feature? The Flash, perhaps? But how much can you genuinely do with a guy who runs really fast? The Legion of Super-Heroes? A possible option, but then you get the anti-sci-fi brigade bitching about 31st Century teenagers, and people going "Who...?" about Ultra Boy, Saturn Girl, Cosmic Boy and the dozen or so other characters that might show up in such a movie...

It just feels like DC have surrendered, even though The Dark Knight has been one of the most lucrative movies of recent years. Marvel have taken the leap beyond more "street level" characters, first with the Hulk, and now THOR, and the first great superhero movie was the biggest gun DC have in their arsenal - Superman. I'm thinking we could be in for some surprising announcements from DC in the next year - that, or a big white flag...

Now, if you'll excuse me, I have a story to push forward on, an Ultima Online client to patch, a broadband issue to resolve - and Star Trek IV is on (even if it IS censored)...
