You can't turn on the TV without running into "Cardinal R", unless you're prepared to suffer multiple repeats of Friends, or "Beauty Day" on the shopping channel...

I was going to launch into a bit of a rant (classic "aggressive atheism", some will say) just now, but then I switched to the BBC Parliament channel, surely a channel free of the Cardinal R's Flying Circus...

I found a repeat of a program from American TV, part of a broadcast from the Council on Foreign relations, in New York on Monday. Speaking was Imam Feisal Abdul Rauf, Chairman of the Cordoba Initiative - cordobainitiative.org - he's head of the organisation planning the Islamic centre in lower Manhattan - the infamous "mosque on Ground Zero". There was no language of hatred, no confrontationalism - this is an individual who comes across as nothing more than a man of peace. A man, dare I say it, of God?

Okay - I haven't burst into flames yet, so I'll continue. Here's the transcript of the speech - read it, and see for yourself. Please.

If I "hated religion", like Cardinal R has accused me of doing, I would not be giving this man one moment of my time. It's a shame that a man of such power as Cardinal R has to resort to recycling the rants of another famous German - just substitute "money-grabbing" for "aggressive militant", and replace "atheist/secularist" with "Jew"...

Never again.

Today, they're celebrating the 70th anniversary of the efforts of "The Few" during The Battle of Britain in 1940. Have we really learned so little in the intervening years...?
