So this is me, putting this week behind me...
Movie Review: Scott Pilgrim vs The World The story...
...Boy meets girl. Boy dreams about other girl. Boy discovers other girl is actually real. Boy tracks down other girl. Boy "dates" other girl. Boy finds himself in video-game themed Kill Bill-esque battle for his life against other girl's Seven Evil Ex-es...
The Opinion... Definitely the most fun of all the movies I've seen this year (so far). I wasn't familiar with the comic book source material, but that didn't impede Impending Enjoyment in the slightest. What could have been a possibly underwhelming quasi-teen rom-com displays some pretty sharp writing even before the battles begin, and when they do, you find yourself glad they didn't resort to 3D, as it would have been so easy to dismiss the movie as half-assed "look at us, we used 3D" fodder. Instead, this shows what can still be done without the gimmick of the moment, and did it well. Very well, in fact.
Great performances abound throughout, even the wildly and delightfully over-the-top Ex-es, the effects jump straight of the comic book page and into your heart... ah hell, it's just the best thing to sit down in front of with drink and popcorn - it might even be worth going vegan on the off-chance that it really does give you psychic powers. Just go and do yourself a favour - see this movie.
In closing, I have no choice but to give the excellent example of Most Excellent Movieage the highest score of the year so far. It wasn't on my "must see" list, but somehow, it managed to attract my attention, and pass the audition for "Movie Better Than Toy Story 3 (with accompanying excellent Pixar short)". There. Said it.
The Verdict... Prepare to be amazed. So good, I bought the (first) book! Score: 9.1/10
