Agh! Just realised I've missed a bunch of Doctor Who reviews...

Okay - let's squeeze in a few mini-reviews:

5.06 Vampires Of Venice
A bit of a filler episode, but changing the emphasis of The Crack storyline a little (at the end). Nice to see the bad guys aren't "proper" vampires - good creature design. Nice to see two companions again!
Score: 7/10

5.07 Amy's Choice
Uh oh, it's "mind-fnaj" time again. All is not as it seems - time and time again. Stronger stuff than last week - and the identity of "The Dream-Lord" is a nice touch. The aliens aren't so great, but you can't have everything...
Score: 8/10

Mid-season thoughts... Matt Smith is doing a fine job, fighting out from under Tennant's shadow. Karen Gillan is terrific, bridging the gap between Rose and Donna, but resolutely making Amy Pond her own, whilst Arthur Darvill has been a welcome addition as the often overwhelmed Rory. Make-up and effects have been generally of a very high standard, and as far as stories go, no clangers have been dropped - for a "changing of the guards", this season has ticked the necessary boxes. It will be interesting to see how the show progresses towards its ominous climax...

Highlight So Far... River Song and the Weeping Angels!

5.08 The Hungry Earth
Another old adversary, even if not in the form Pertwee fans might recall. Still a good story, reminding us the Silurians are an advanced race. The "waving at yourselves ten years in the past" bit was fun, but shame about the poor tongue FX, and the underwhelming Silurian city.
Score: 7.5/10

5.09 Cold Blood
Part One's promise isn't really delivered upon, as the two-parter slogs along, walking a lot of the same path as the Pertwee story. Saved by a shock ending, in more ways than one - the "Amy forgets" scene is touching, as The Doctor just fails to save what's left of her memories of Rory.
Score: 7/10

I will be watching the rest of the season - only four episodes to go - with more hawk-like attention, and a return to my previous reviewing stance. A truly mind-blowing finale is a must, and the shocking discovery at the end of "Cold Blood" suggests that's just what we'll get...
