The Last In Line
17 May 2010 20:59Last night, Ronnie James Dio died.
Every now and again, you see a legend has passed away, and for a time, you feel the world has verged a little closer to grey-scale without the artist in question - but it's been quite a long time since a rock death made me really pause and reflect on how so many songs you love just won't sound quite the same again. Last night, and into the wee small hours, was one of those times.
Has any vocalist sung on more classic albums? "Rising", "Long Live Rock N Roll", "Heaven And Hell", "Mob Rules", "Holy Diver"...? Right now, I can't honestly think of anyone, and certainly not anyone in THREE DIFFERENT BANDS. Like or loathe the man, you just can't argue with that.
Ronnie, thanks for it all. Your songs will remain inspirational - and anyone who doesn't know your name just doesn't know what they missed.
Other business I may post about later, or tomorrow.
