...three years in the waiting.
X-Men (III) - The Last Stand
The Verdict...
Good...
- Beast: Kelsey Grammer is excellent, and we even get the "Oh my stars and garters" line! Nice, typically Beast introduction!
- The Danger Room: Fastball Special! (and the result!)
- James (Cyclops) Marsden isn't in it for long...
- Iceman "ices up"!
- Nice use of Jamie "Multiple Man" Madrox...
- Even Vinnie Jones wasn't too bad - Juggernaut came across very well, even though he should have been WAY bigger! I liked the way Kitty dealt with him...
- All in all, a very satisfactory continuation of the series, but...
Bad...
- Phoenix: what happened...? Where was the majesty? Where was the famous "Phoenix Effect"? There was more of it in X-Men II! So many opportunities to even just hint at it, but all missed. A shame. There she was, one of the most stunning characters in comic book history, and all she did for most of the film was just stand there, and look ominous...
I was really looking forward to Phoenix, and whilst that part of the story generally worked out okay, I wanted more. This was a time when the low-profile costumes didn't help, as the mutants all seemed to be generalised malcontents in black leather.
In General... Quite satisfactory, given its self-imposed limitations. I was still looking forward to the gold thigh-high boots, though...
The Score... 8 out of 10.
Most Likely Competition... Superman Returns - that looks awesome!
