Mission 101 Updates...
Smoked haddock, boiled potatoes and mixed beans, last night. The beans were out of a tin, and not particularly nice, but the rest was a definite success. I even impressed myself with the potatoes!
Brighton Rock (1947) was going to be my first "classic" when I saw it in the TV listings this time last week, but along came Doctor Zhivago on Sunday, pipping my original choice at the post. Even so, I watched the film anyway, and quite good it was too.
The Review-In-A-Paragraph... Brighton Rock may have a rather mundane setting for a "classic" - the British seaside town of Brighton between the wars - and the initial "hook" may seem a little questionable, but Richard Attenborough blows away all that with a performance that exudes evil with almost every word. A small town gangster without morals, he's chilling as events of his own making spiral out of control, staining all around him, innocent or otherwise - and the final conclusion of his machinations is incredibly understated, yet emotionally intense. Well worth seeing! ( 3.5/5 )
Development News... Got two pages to type up tonight as Chapter 5 of TDD-605 "She Returns" kicks off - I don't want this chapter to drag on too much, 'cause this thread has already spilled over into another chapter, which I hadn't intended. I'm thinking this story will "top out" at seven, maybe eight chapters, but if I've learned anything through all this writing, it is that all targets and deadlines are subject to unexpected revision...
9 - Cook dinner at least once a month (1/33)
