Marvel head-man Joe Quesada has plenty to say on the subject of "event fatigue", and as a consumer, I'll certainly welcome Marvel "holding fire" on big multi-title, multi issue storylines in the event mold, as I just can't afford the damn things. I enjoy big stories - I started serious comic collecting towards the end of Secret Wars II, and I remember Marvel's big multi-Annual crossovers almost breaking my bank - but do you really need all these if you already have a huge stable of great characters, some of whom rarely see the light of day except to pad out a battle scene? Let's be honest, Joe - some of the best stuff from your company in the last couple of years has been in Captain America, which has steered away from the super-heroic core, and followed its own espionage-centric path...

This also has me thinking about my own projects, and how production has slowed down over the last couple of years. Part of this is down to the increase in chapter length - early Darkhawk chapters weigh in at about a screen and a half, whilst the epilogue for MoN-203 Mane-of-Night And The Wayward Child clocks in at THIRTEEN screens - and part has been trying to figure a way to an exciting conclusion, with another war waiting to fully erupt in my path. Even though little has been written about the relevant conflicts, The Confederacy has almost constantly been at war since its foundation - the historic Hybrine Wars were the background for that alliance's formation (and we will return to that in the near future).

The early Darkhawk stories were fun, and flowed thick and fast, because the future of reality didn't depend on the outcome - it was personal stuff, mainly; literally "the diaries of Darkhawk". That's why The Secret Adventures of Mane-of-Night came into being, to try and recapture some of the fun of those earlier days, and that's what it did, perhaps to the detriment of the core "title". This is why I wanted Work Slot 3 for development work, as major events are looming (which shouldn't come as much of a surprise, dear reader), and it has simply got to fit together right - every now and again, I stop to jot down notes of great significance, and gradually, the pieces fall into place...

Nobody said creativity was easy.

Tomorrow... Work Slot 3 begins - and it's Patent Saturday!
