In Today's Headline News... Yesterday, our Great and Bountiful New Labour Government granted us the boon of... (wait for it) a 2.5 per cent cut in VAT (the closest thing to Sales Tax we have in the UK), to 15 per cent - but until January 2010 - in an attempt to stimulate the economy they so deftly managed to fuck up. Today, word slipped out that the Government (aka Glorious Gordon and Amazing Alistair) had planned, when January 2010 rolled around, to not only reinstate 17.5 per cent VAT, but put it up to 18.5 per cent!

Just who are these jokers trying to kid??? That VAT cut is the equivalent of 1p off the price of a Mars bar - yeah, that's really going to make people rush out and spend the money they will, very soon, have to cough up in tax to pay for your foul-ups...

Oh, and here's another one: at the same time as the cut, due to come in on Monday, they announced a "new" £1.3 billion package to deal with unemployment. Today, it transpires that G&A are now not going to close a whole bunch of JobCentres, and will employ 6000 new staff to man them - guess that's the £1.3 billion spent, then.
