Well, my weekend didn't start well. Last night, my longest-standing online friend began preparing for quitting Ultima Online. She has more reasons than most for calling it a day, online and "off", but that doesn't make it any easier to handle - even though you can walk through the major cities of the game's world, and sometimes never see another player, unless some evil force is invading, and there's "pixel crack" to be looted.
For UO to stand any chance of surviving, it really will have to go "free to play", getting income from selling "expansion packs". People are upping sticks and heading to games that are non-subscription, but I don't want to see this game just bleed to death. I'm not planning on going anywhere, unless a game emerges that doesn't require processing power that's too expensive to acquire, and has the same openness - when you put eleven years into something, you just don't turn your back on it. As far as bleeding is concerned, I pretty much bleed Ultima Online - even though I don't play as intensively as I once did - and I most likely will to the very end.
Thanks for giving the game a try at my suggestion, Jessica. Thanks for being a part of it with me.
Now, boys and girls, let's go out with a roar.
Now excuse me while I post the rest of today separately.
