The List | Previous Updates: 2010
January - February - March - April - May - June - July
In The SCORE Column For July...
23 - Camp outside at least once
Completed 27-07-2010 - I had my tent pitched in the back garden as part of Task 79, and whilst the previous Friday-Saturday was a false start, Tuesday worked (almost) like a charm. The last time I did anything like this was so long ago...
79 - Protest against CLAN
Completed 30-07-2010 - When you have a five thousand strong evangelical Christian convention with a concert-strength sound system in tents half the size of the school a field-goal away from your back door for a whole week, it's very, VERY hard not to get wound up, especially when you get the very definite impression that the group and the local council have no intention of asking the residents of the area - a school and associated sports field, surrounded by houses - what they feel about it all.
We contacted the council, and got nowhere. I leafleted the surrounding area, and got some interesting opinions. I set up a campaign blog, and got some equally interesting feedback from that. I even set up a "peace camp" of sorts in the garden, complete with tent and "iconic" red flag. Has it all had the desired effect - in that the neighbourhood will be given some consideration in future? I can't say.
I'm pretty sure this is all far from over. In about a month, we may find out. The Task may be done, but the struggle may not be...
Tasks In Progress...
Progressing satisfactorally: Books from a proper bookshop every month (Task 29); classic movie a month (Task 28); cook dinner once a month (Task 9); get comic orders in more promptly (Task 42) - all those kinds of things. Balancing my finances (Task 66) isn't going quite so well, in part thanks to the comic orders slipping out of sequence with the relevant payments, but with some thought, I can deal with the situation.
Coming Up...
Several tasks will see some progress this very weekend - I'll be clocking up another concert (Task 90), and visiting another city I don't have as a regular destination (Task 19), and at the same time I could meet my 100 hour-long walks (or their equivalent) target for 2010 (Task 3) with nearly FIVE months left to go!
Add a few other things, and I should be in for an interesting time - which I will chronicle as they crop up. Keep watching...
