Development News... Guess I should misplace my writing journal more often, 'cause the stuff I wrote yesterday in the back of my development journal for MoN-202 "Mane-of-Night And The Watcher From Beyond" helped to stoke up some inspiration! The logjam has been left in the distance, and I expect to make a bit more progress over the next few days. No completion promises, but I will start posting MoN-109 "Mane-of-Night And The Darkening Storm" on Saturday.

In the news... The German school shootings today are no laughing matter, but the reporting of the whole awful episode came straight out of the "Things We Learned From Columbine" Book - attempts to paint the perpetrator as "a quiet boy" lasted only five minutes, a German official threw in an arbitrary mention of video games and "Playstations" (what, no Marilyn Manson obsession?), even though it was only to admit there was no apparent connection between gaming and the murders (so why mention it?), and every report seemed to suggest that changing the gun laws would somehow have prevented the killings...

I'm sorry? Where does that come from? The 17 year-old boy apparently possessed several guns (according to early reports), even though it's illegal for anyone under 21 to own handguns. How would changing the law have prevented the murders - someone please tell me. I would really like to know - will a change in German legislation make all the illegal guns suddenly and magically disappear? I don't bloody think so - it didn't work here after Dunblane, as the growing gun-death toll in recent years makes all too plain. It's been said that Germany has two illegal guns for every legal one, and it is much, much easier to get a gun illegally than legally - and who in their right mind uses a legitimate gun for a crime...?

We're just going round and round in circles with this, even though one fact is staring us in the face. Less than twenty-four hours before this incident, a guy in Alabama "went postal" - could *gasp* the media, in its rush to provide us with twenty-four hour a day news, have provided this boy with the inspiration he needed to "push him over the edge"? A bit of a "shot in the dark", but still...

Bet that never even gets hinted at. They'll find Marilyn Manson in his CD collection, or something iffy in his games collection, long before that.

However, there is light on the horizon. A small thing, but welcome nonetheless - former Woolworths employees have, this very day, reopened one of the recently closed shops as "Wellworths", and the place was apparently packed out. Good luck to them all, and I hope other shops will follow in their footsteps.

And finally... Could it be that my new broadband is ready to roll...?
