The shootings in Virginia are without question a terrible thing, and there are families and friends still coming to terms with their losses, but it hasn't taken long for the usual stuff to come out - "ooh, he was a 'loner'", "if guns weren't so readily available, this would never have happened"... what a surprise.

Gun bans don't work. Anyone who wants to carry out such an atrocity will find a way - and could find a way long before the internet came around, in case anyone wants to damn the 'net again. In fact, the 'net has been applauded for helping the students cope, not that that will remain newsworthy for much longer.

Look at the UK - our Olympic shooters have to train in other countries because of our gun laws, but more and more children are being shot on our streets. Illegal guns are already illegal, and making them "double illegal" won't make them disappear.

And don't get me started on this "loner" crap. It's a feeble "easy target" that just doesn't address the much more complicated issue of "what makes people kill". If every "loner" picked up a gun right now and shot someone dead, millions would be wiped out just like that. You may as well be saying he killed because he was South Korean, or because he was jealous of, or disgusted by the "rich kids" - what, he killed them because he was a Socialist?

...but he's dead, and his victims are dead, and that's all that matters, not the inner details that, in the right hands, could drastically reduce the chance of something like this happening again. After all, if that happens, what will the media go into a foaming frenzy about...?

Project Updates... More on that tomorrow...
