Elsewhat... Dammit, the movie Contact winds me up every time - "we can't send someone to meet aliens if they don't believe in God", then guess who fucks everything up? A religious maniac.
But... what if we did send some "holy roller" into space, and inflicted on the aliens all this preaching about how the universal creator made our species, and our planet, special and better than all the rest, the centre of all "His" creation? What if the aliens believed they were "special, and better, the centre of all creation"? A chance for enlightenment lost in the nuclear fire of a cosmic jihad, and all because the priests and bible-bashers just want to keep us stupid.
