It went some all right.
At The Movies... The Dark Knight I am not much of a Batman fan. There, said it. I'm also not much of a fan of today's "grittier" style of comics...
...but this movie was fantastic. It took the ground-work done in Batman Begins, and kept on building on that. Yes, the story is dark, and for some maybe depressing, whilst the ending isn't exactly uplifting, but there is some excellent work (such as the two ferries thing), and Heath Ledger's final (full) performance is as worthy of an Oscar nomination as Michael Caine has been saying. His Joker is quite wonderfully nasty, utterly insane - and quite unlike any previous incarnation. You have to love that sequence where he walks away from the hospital...
The effects are excellent, the action sequences don't let up once they kick in, the performances are outstanding - my only criticism? The Bat's dialogue was often hard to make out, 'cause of the super-moody Bat-Voice. That is all that probably stopped this from getting Movie Of The Year.
The Verdict This is definitely the year superhero movies come of age. Time for some respect. 9/10
Meanwhile... Ordered my Patent Saturday present - or at least that might be when it'll arrive.
