...there, done. Now I can get back to writing, most likely this evening, or whenever the mood takes me before then.
Now this is interesting... Yesterday, the Conservative Party (currently Her Majesty's Opposition in Parliament, and strongly tipped to be the next Government, for those not in the know elsewhere in the world) were apparently quoted in one major newspaper that they were "going to make the unemployed afraid of them". Why?
Not sure if this is the original source material, but it covers the bases...
If you want to reduce unemployment, Mister Cameron, you don't go around talking about them as though they are criminals, and the enemy of all that is moral and decent in the world, using such sneery terms as "workshy". You don't make people afraid of you, you make them thankful it's you in power, not Brown and New Liebour. Yes, there are people who exploit the system, and make as much out of being unemployed as some do in full-time work - there have been a disturbingly large number of cases of "terrorist suspects" who, when they come to court, are revealed to be getting FIVE HUNDRED POUNDS A WEEK, claiming and getting every benefit under the sun.
There have been many cases of people on Incapacity Benefit who are recorded jogging, playing golf, heaving heavy objects around - they're milking it, and good luck in bringing them down - but they do not represent the majority...
Arrest and charge the criminals. Show compassion for those who genuinely need help. Give the rest the HELP they need to get work - not tinkering with your CV in a draughty office over a bakery, filled with chavvy vermin mucking about with ultrasonic ring-tones and handing prescription Valium around like they're sweeties... YES "TRIAGE", I MEAN YOU! - I mean getting in touch with employers, matching their needs to the people on your books, and arranging for employee to meet employer without first crossing the minefield of the application form...
Oh, and my "pressing business"? An application for A JOB, and a response to someone at the University wondering if I was available to assist the marine lab with data input (that answer being YES).
