Today, in a vain attempt to make up for a complete lack of productivity (so far) today, I decided to investigate the figures behind The Darkhawk Diaries and The Secret Adventures Of Mane-of-Night. "Just how many chapters have I produced, and at what rate?", I asked myself, and the results of my survey, whilst not absolutely accurate (probably 99.5%), were quite surprising.
Since it began on July 2nd 2003, there have been, to date, 875 chapters of The Darkhawk Diaries, and since its beginning on 25th February 2006, 161 chapters of The Secret Adventures Of Mane-of-Night. In total, that's 1036 chapters. Chapter 1000 was Chapter 13 of MoN-202 "Mane-of-Night and The Dark Child's Descent", on 15th May this year - oddly enough, at about that very time, I was beginning to wonder when the milestones would come, and that one completely crept up on me. 2004 was the most productive whole year, with 245 chapters posted, although the first six months of the Darkhawk project, in 2003, had the best production rate of all, at around 300 chapters per year...
(Yeah, exciting, isn't it?)
It comes as no surprise that "The Year Of Hell", 2007, saw a substantial drop-off in productivity, with a total of 127 chapters written (compared to the previous year's 166), and it's equally predictable that the work-rate hasn't recovered. To date, I regret to report, this year has seen just 70 chapters written, but the length of chapters has grown substantially since those screen-and-a-half quickies of 2003-4 - Chapter 1000 was, for example, just a paragraph short of nine screens long! Even so, I would very much like to have a better volume of turn-out, even if that means investing in a netbook to cut out the time-consuming, will-sapping type-up phase. Kinda wish there was an expenses department I could apply to, and submit these figures as justification for claiming new hardware as a necessity - but I do have a little money set aside. Pity the big electrical chain-store in town closed down a month or two ago...
As far as productivity is concerned, I intend to have a "Mini-Push" on Sunday night. I'll have a damn good try at finishing MoN-203, and if I can manage to stay awake, I may just get Chapter 13 completed tonight. All in all, a genuine challenge - but I can do it.
