Here it comes... the Great Backlash against the greatest evil of our times; the Unemployed.

Just see this BBC "investigation" - and then look at the feedback "Britain's Jobless - Who Cares?". Is the reaction a surprise? Based on the tone of the article, not really...

"Britain's Jobless - Who Cares?" - apparently, the answer to that is, sadly and simply, "no-one." The respondants only seem to care about their precious tax - and they resent "paying out" for "unemployment benefits" - quite a broad catch-all, essentially meaning "any and all unearned income, provided by the New Labour Government". Is there anything else they resent paying tax for...?

"I don't have children, so why should I have to pay tax for schools?"
"I don't smoke, so why should I have to pay for lung cancer treatment?"
"I don't drive, so why should I have to pay for roads?"
"I'm able-bodied, so why should I pay for facilities for the disabled...?"

- the list is, quite literally, endless, and none of its is justified. But let's not let care for your fellow man get in the way of a nice juicy tax-cut...

Unfortunately, the world just doesn't work that way. We can't isolate ourselves, and our economic situation, from the rest of the world - that's just the kind of attitude that's screwing up society right now. Yes, there are some people for whom unemployment appears to be a career option, and some for whom it feels like a trap, or a dead-end from which there seems to be no escape - but it certainly doesn't help to have a baying mob hot on your heels, with burning torches and pitchforks (another expenditure that's most likely resented, and blamed on the unemployed). Now clearly isn't the time for this kind of hate-campaign, with job losses reported everywhere as the bottom falls out of the money-trough, and unemployment certain to rise - and rise... and rise... and all the ranting in the world, yours or mine, all the scapegoating, ain't gonna change that.

I just hope the next job to be lost isn't yours, Mister Aggrieved Tax-Payer - the silence as you wait for someone to show any sympathy would be deafening. And if unemployment was to drop to zero overnight, the money saved would just vanish into this New Labour government's £100 BILLION debt black hole - oh yeah, you'd forgotten about that, hadn't you?

That's exactly what Brown and Co want. You fucking tool.

Yes, benefits are expensive. Caring about others is free. A supportive word or gesture doesn't cost a penny - or does that take time out of your busy, money-earning schedule? I think we all know the answer.

And before you ask, Mister Tax-Payer - NO, you did not pay for this lap-top.

End rant transmission...
