The first in an irregular series featuring the writer's personal feelings on causes and issues currently in the public eye...

I expect to be well and truly sick of the 2008 Olympics by the time they actually start. Hopefully, the Chinese - or more properly the Chinese Government - will be too...

This comes in the wake of the torch processions in London and Paris (and the imminent event in San Francisco), which were guaranteed to degenerate into farce. I can't see why those participating apparently "felt in danger", as I can't see what good it would do the pro-Tibet movement (NOT anti-China, from what I've seen, but boy does the media love using that term) to beat up former Blue Peter presenters, British athletic heroes and heroines, and people in wheelchairs. Maybe those trying to grab or extinguish the torch went too far, but at least we in Britain arrest these people (totalling 37), then let them go after the event without charge - instead of taking them around the back of the police station and shooting them like some people...

I don't hate China. I don't hate the Chinese. I do hate people trampling over the freedoms of others because of some screwed-up doctrine that has been proved to be an utter failure all over the rest of the world. Yes, I've seen the footage from Tibet of "locals" beating up "an innocent Chinese man" - but how does that compare to any kind of actual reality? Internet conspiracy freaks - there's a new topic for you now that the Diana "conspiracy" has been completely shot down (we can but dream).

Communist regimes have a habit of indulging in pruning the "undesirables" from their population, in numbers that make the "illegal war in Iraq" look like child's play. If anyone has "mixed up sport with politics", it was the IOC, who gave China the Olympics in the hope that that would encourage improvements in human rights in that country. The Chinese Government have since waved the Olympics around like a flag of victory.

I think I'll stop there. Others have done a better job, and much more research into Chinese Government acts of human rights abuse and outright mass murder. I haven't even touched on the "Great Firewall of China" and the hundreds of missiles pointed at Taiwan...

Maybe there's a reason why the flag is red.

...and that's the last word from me. I hope.

Meanwhile... Work on MoN-107 "A Darkening Tide" continues, and rather that write here about that progress, I'd rather just get on with pulling together the last few chapters that'll tie this whole thing together before I start with the next bit of story posting...

And finally... Watched Smokin' Aces this afternoon. Not highly regarded at time of release, and maybe it would've been better helmed by Tarantino or Rodriguez, but it was entertaining all the same. Alicia Keyes and partner were particularly good - loved the "hooker boots"...
