Next Day...
31 Aug 2006 19:04In Today's Episode: Mane-of-Night gets to know Glitterthorn's agents in the latest chapter of The Darkhawk Diaries. And not a moment too soon...
In The News... Yesterday's entry: Over-reaction? Not as far as I'm concerned. There certainly seems to be a lot of concern that this latest legislation is far from "universally welcomed" - see, for example The Editors - All Sides Of The Story? - and take note of comment number 60 ;-) You might want to check out comment 63, which does miss the point to some extent. If such legal action is justified because of one related death, then surely people should be protected for all potential influences, and holy books have most definitely done more damage - just look at Iraq, any day of the week, and don't forget the Tube bombings last year, 9/11, the conquest of the Americas, the Crusades...
As far as the "monkey see, monkey do" defence goes, all I can say is, that from my experience, violent material has not made me violent. Injustice makes me angry, and that's about as violent as I'm likely to get, and as far as violent video games are concerned, playing Carmageddon has actually discouraged me from learning to drive, for fear of hitting someone.
The Government is clearly looking for a new minority that it's "okay to hate", just like the fox-hunters before. Another damned excuse for not dealing with real problems.
And at the end of it all, Jane Longhurst is still dead, still murdered. Just what has been achieved...?
This news broke on the same day as a Commonly Used Reputable Retailer (Yeah Sure) screwed up my laptop order, so excuse me for getting extra-pissed off about it...
