Swings And Balances
10 Aug 2006 23:36Generally, things balance out today at "not bad", based on some stuff being cancelled out by other stuff. This balance can very easily swing the other way, so I'm not going to tempt fate, as far as either major factor is concerned.
However... This does not include ongoing events in the country at the moment. I am sure there will be plenty of people who believe that, yes, this government will cost this country billions of pounds and frustrate a lot of holiday travellers, paralysing most of our airports, just to get Israel/Lebanon off the front pages...
Bet their attitudes would change in a real hurry if one of their family members was floating face down in the Atlantic right now, highly unlikely to be recovered and given a proper burial. What price being able to take your mobile or your book of Sudokus on the plane now, eh, sonny?
And, of course, let's take a shot at Bush while we're at it, 'cause of his "threat to the US thwarted" statement in Wisconsin. The targeted planes were all American, according to current information, and there are plenty of targets left on America's Eastern Seaboard. Better this than have aircraft from the US Navy shoot down airliners - with your loved ones aboard, helpless victims of terrorism.
Let's not forget all those members of the general public so desperate for evidence of wrong-doing, whilst the police are still investigating. Yes, why don't we just reveal everything we know, and give any remaining terrorists a nice head-start over the forces of law and order - some of them may escape, perhaps to carry out some other atrocity, but at least Johnny Whinging-Student-Commie will be fully furnished with information he never needed in the first place, and just because he doesn't understand it, he'll assume it's just part of another paranoid conspiracy.
Just be thankful no-one died today - and remember: the terrorists will kill you whatever colour, creed or nationality you are. Wearing a "Troops Out" t-shirt will not save you.
