I'm still around, but I just went through a month that has eroded some of my enthusiasm. Minecraft troubles (now resolved pretty much), back pain (still an issue)... that kinda thing. So, what can I talk about today?

The big news would have to be that GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY has become the most successful film in the US this summer, and perhaps this year. If you include international box office, the latest Transformers comes out on top, but a month on, GUARDIANS is still packing them in - and quite right too!

Talking about the year's blockbusters, you have to mention that the home releases are starting to come out, most notably CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE WINTER SOLDIER, which still looks awesome on a small, non-3D screen, and I imagine GODZILLA should be out by Christmas.

Last, but by no means least: the return of DOCTOR WHO, and the start of the Capaldi era. He's more Pertwee and Eccleston than Smith and Tennant, but that's no bad thing. Two episodes in, and both highly enjoyable, but we're waiting with bated breath for his defining episode...

Oh, and FOOTBALL SEASON is imminent!!!
patentdragon: (unexpected)
Current Status: Fair. Not in agony, and managing to get around a whole lot better than Day 1 or 2. Having a weekend to crash out throughout has been a big help, although I'm still not entirely sure some of the drugs are doing what they should, whilst others are doing a good deal more to ease me through this.

Not a lot else to report, apart from the scheduled videos. Just can't be arsed to link to them right now.

UPDATE: Doctor Who returns Saturday 23rd August. Niiiiice.
patentdragon: (unexpected)
Yours Truly is well stuffed, Capaldi is The Doctor, my IMAX cinema-going is paid for for about the next two years or so (thanks family), a Minecraft glitch appears to be a transitory thing...

...Oooooh, unexpected Stargate! The TV movie that ties up the loose ends left when SG-1 ended - now this requires my full(-ish) attention...

Catch you tomorrow, people-folks. It seems that I have a full evening ahead - this, then Troll Hunter. Should be fun.

A big day for incoming post - that's a big bit of Christmas shopping done... and I am now in possession of a pretty sweeeet new pair of boots, in prefect timing for Patent Saturday. Excellent!

Yeah, it's been another thin week on the blogging front, but The Stargazer Project - Season 2: The Edge Of Chaos has been getting, and holding, the majority of my attention. It doesn't help that the Doctor Who 50th Anniversary Special is TOMORROW, and that next week - and the week following - will be dominated by "PatSat"...

Excellent viewing last night: An Adventure In Space And Time, dramatising the origins of the phenomenon that has been - and, I am certain, continue to be - Doctor Who.

What's that? A Gravity review? Oh crap, I have rather dropped that ball...

...ok, a quick one: A good reality-based space disaster movie, that makes the silence of space a character in its own right. Somehow, I was expecting MORE, such as 3D that would genuinely dazzle, but that was not to be. Movie Of The Year? Naaah - a solid 8/10, but all-out space opera (Star Trek Into Darkness!) wins out in that respect.

Look for the tie-in short movie that's going around, which provides an insight into the other end of a conversation in the main movie. It's very effective.

There. Not my best, but it's that or nothing!

ITEM! So, I finally got that Christmas shopping done, a day later than planned - not that much of a hardship, in all honesty.

ITEM! An issue of concern about one of my net domains has cleared itself up - adding still further to my next credit card bill, which was going to be bigger than normal anyway.

ITEM! I had been thinking of going to Wales to visit The Doctor Who Experience on or before the show's 50th anniversary, but like a bunch of other stuff this year, it simply didn't... materialise. Instead, however, I will be going to the cinema showing of the 50th Anniversary TV special!

All in all, not an entirely unproductive day.

Guess I know what I'll be watching after Agents Of SHIELD.

Meanwhile, the build-up for the 50th Anniversary of Doctor Who hits fever-pitch with...

Looking VERY promising. Welcome back, Paul - shame it's been so long, and for so short a time.
patentdragon: (unexpected)
The windows are finally IN.

Peter Capaldi is Doctor 12.

I tripped over some stuff last night, and tweaked my ankle. Talk about perfect friggin' timing...

...but I seem to be okay, walking-wise, with less than a week to go to Spiritwalk 2. I have just got to take care on it, if everything is to go to plan on Monday.

Please, universe, I have earned this.
patentdragon: (unexpected)
No window news. So, with that out of the way...

Meanwhile... Okay, boys and girls, here it comes - DC's "Hail Mary", namely Man Of Steel, which I am now booked to see on Saturday. Will it be enough to fire up interest in a potential Justice League movie? Will that movie stand a chance against the machine that is Marvel Studios and the Marvel Cinematic Universe?

And... how much more crazy can the talk surrounding Guardians Of The Galaxy get? Doctor Who alumnus Karen Gillan is the latest addition to the cast - and could she be playing one of the more contentious characters around right now, that being Angela, formerly from the Image stable and (very) soon to be slotted into Marvel's continuity? With just over a year to go before the movie's release, things are getting rather... hectic...

I hate working on Saturdays - buuuut the money is better. Not quite the "fair trade" it might seem, but there you go...

Meanwhile... it seems that two hundred and ten American Doctor Who fans are to be congratulated for their restraint, and not one peep of secret information has leaked out concerning tonight's Season finale. A secret about The Doctor has been revealed - maybe NOT what was expected - but we did discover the truth about The Impossible Girl...

...and something more, that we DIDN'T expect, and which is clearly planned to feature BIG in the 50th anniversary continuation of this story. I'd say this episode is the best of this "demi-series", which has had several nice ideas, but a bit of a lack of "Ooooooh!" Splitting a season like this stops you from getting the absorbing "grand arcs" of previous years - although I would like to see more of Vastra, Jenny and Strax (Strax's weekend off in Glasgow was a good laugh).

Season: 7.5/10
Episode 8.5/10

Anyway.... that's Saturday dealt with. Now - at last - for Sunday, and two straight lie-ins.
patentdragon: (unexpected)
PLEASE tell me we're not going to have to wait FOUR MONTHS to get the go-ahead for deploying the equipment necessary to fit these damn windows. We will be into the THIRD YEAR since The Move, and I am so frigging sick of it all.

Please let's just get it all finished, and start LIVING again.

That's pretty much it, and the major feature of the last couple of days. Work is a great deal better right now, with a human being running the show, not a fnajing Dalek. Three days to go, the next being Saturday... and what a Saturday: tomorrow, we may just learn the biggest secret in British TV history...

...The Name Of The Doctor...?

Unless that's being kept for November, and the 50th Anniversary Special...

In the meantime, THIS.

patentdragon: (unexpected)
Day 1 of the exams, and a very relaxed business it was. Just the way it should be - and I managed to get a good deal of writing done, for the first time in TOO long! A chapter that was due for comepletion MONTHS ago is pretty much "in the can", and a decent chunk of the next is on paper, for write-up at lunch tomorrow.

By the time I get home, some old furniture will have been cleared, and the stage (hopefully) set for getting those damned windows in!

I am, however, not holding my breath.

In the meantime, the internet isn't exactly the safest place to be if you're a Doctor Who fan, 'cause someone in the US screwed up really badly, and sent out Season 7 Part TWO DVDs, due for release not long after the season finale shows at the weekend, and the episode "The Name Of The Doctor" is now "in the wild". Please, people, let's not ruin that landmark story for everyone else, okay...?
patentdragon: (unexpected)
So, what happened today...?

Not a great deal, to be honest. Oh yeah - the 50th anniversary for Doctor Who seems to be taking shape, as it's confirmed that David (Ten) Tennant is making an appearance. Any chance of, I guess, Eight (Paul McGann) and Nine (Christopher Eccleston? Both had runs that were way too short - especially Eight...

Yeah, now it's the weekend again, and I only posted ONE entry since this time last week. The number of times I notice it's almost midnight, then look up again and see that it's suddenly past midnight, and say to myself "Well, bugger that then - better luck tomorrow"...

The reason for this, for pretty much the whole month, has been Minecraft, and its associated recordings that have once again filled up my hard drive again. I mean, I went and bought a 3TB external drive, and it's not been out of the box yet...

Well, it's almost midnight again, and I haven't even tried to compose a Doctor Who review, let alone post it. I also have to juggle staying warm and staying awake...

I'm posting this, however it looks. I don't think I've ever had this long a gap when blogging.
patentdragon: (unexpected)
Bloody hell, it's cold.

Doesn't help that my Minecraft masterpiece is taking shape in a snowy land...

Talking of which, I better get back to that. Next week, however, there'll be something else demanding my attention...

...the return of Doctor Who! Finally, the 50th anniversary can finally begin.
patentdragon: (unexpected)
Hard drive space concerns have been dealt with*, even though that ate a chunk of the last day of my "long weekend" I *gasp* did manage to get some writing done - as in finally typing up a chunk of the latest Mane-of-Night story. I really need to do more writing, but I'm just not in that groove right now. PLEASE can we get these damn windows sorted so I can FINALLY get organised? It's nearly TWO YEARS since we moved!!!

(*I was going to place a reservation on a 3TB desktop HD at Argos, but noooo, it's not in stock, 'cause it's "discontinued". Oh great - too late on the deal that made this item cheaper than two of the 1TB portable models I just got for video management. Typical...)

Elsewhat... Yay - the Budget has something for me! Income tax will only be charged after the first £10,000 sooner than previous planned! Probably means I won't be getting many more refunds, though.

Also... there's a new Doctor Who trailer. A week and a half to go!

Next weekend - the Superbowl!

This weekend - not so super. I haven't really done anything creative. Unless you count rethinking my plans to build a whole new base in Terreria. Maybe an "early" adjournment to bed will give me an opportunity to remedy the shortfall.

So, what else is there? Oh yeah - J.J. Abrams, current helmsman of Star Trek, is to direct Star Trek Episode VII - a curious turn of events given that Abrams recently made it clear he was dedicated to the Trek franchise. I really hope this doesn't hurt future Trek movies, like Christopher Ecclestone quitting Doctor Who after one season could have hurt the revitalised show, when news came out almost on the eve of the first episode...
patentdragon: (unexpected)
Okay, that WAS supposed to "hit the presses" before midnight, but didn't. It's no big deal, to be honest, 'cause there's a whole bunch of not a lot to report on...

Oh, here's something: this just in - Doctor Who returns March 30th!

Meanwhile... Can I still get Wreck Of The Nemesis ready to begin posting at the weekend? With a two-day posting interval, I'd have most of next week to get Chapter 3 into shape - sounds like plenty, if I get things moving...

At least the cold spell is loosening its grip. Or so it seems...

Chapter 2 of Lonely This Christmas is going to be late. The first few paragraphs are up as a taster, but the official release will have to be tomorrow.

Hey, it's Christmas, and I've had to deal with that, change plans on which story to write, AND find a new blogging solution...

I had to include this...

patentdragon: (unexpected)
Lonely This Christmas begins, and we pay a visit to Earth, and a hero on self-imposed hiatus. Tony Fulcher is trying to live the life of an ordinary American school student, but his other life still stops by for a visit...

Release Notes... There. On time. And posted to the NEW story-blog at It will take some time to get things properly set up, and its not exactly the best time for the year for such an upheaval, but there you go. I would have been able to avoid this had I continued with Wreck Of The Nemesis as "Christmas Special", but this story just cried out to be told.

Now, if you'll excuse me, there's last-minute wrapping to do, and a festive mood to get into. I get the feeling Chapter 2 of Lonely... will be a "live production", typed up as I digest over tomorrow evening - after Doctor Who.

Have a good night, Dear Reader, and a good tomorrow, whatever it brings you, and whether you celebrate it or not.
patentdragon: (Default)
Yup. Late. So let's not delay...

ITEM! With some more behind-the-scenes material emerging for THOR - The Dark World - and here's even more - next pre-Christmas is going to be pretty awesome!

ITEM! Talking about Christmas - and this Christmas this time - I think I can confidently say that this year's Doctor Who Special will kick the ass of last year's not entirely stellar offering. It actually looks like FUN.

ITEM! This time next week, CSI Miami will be history. Unfortunately, this final season really hasn't shone as you might have thought it would.

ITEM! And Star Trek Online still has me as an active player, thanks to a great fleet. I will not be such an asshole again.
