Marvel Studios Announces "Captain Marvel," "Black Panther," "Avengers: Infinity War"

- or more correctly, the announcements are:-

28 July 2015 - Ant-Man
- which we already knew about, but it's still on schedule...

6 May 2016 - Captain America: Civil War
- which we also knew about apart from the full title. What we DIDN'T know is that it will FULLY feature a character getting his own movie the following year...

4 November 2016 - Dr Strange
- Also expected, but still not official word on a star. And then, onward into less explored territory:-

5 May 2017 - Guardians Of The Galaxy 2
- Anticipated, but moved up the schedule a bit, to allow for...

28 July 2017 - Thor: Ragnarok
- Apparently as momentous as Winter Soldier, but in a different part of the universe...

3 November 2017 - Black Panther
- That solo hero movie previously mentioned! Yes, that's THREE movies in 2017!

6 July 2018 - Captain Marvel
- Carol Danvers lives! In which costume, remains to be seen.

2 November 2018 - Inhumans
- Easter Eggs soon, we're told. Agents Of SHIELD Season 2 soon, perhaps...?

May 2018 - Avengers: Infinity War Part 1
May 2019 - Avengers: Infinity War Part 2

- A two-part epic, as The Big Purple Guy gets his... hand on The Prize!

I am SO HAPPY I caught word of the event containing these announcements, just before the news started to filter through from Hollywood, at a special event for press and select fans. THIS IS IT - the road-map we've been waiting for, the gauntlet before The Gauntlet.

And now, I have five years worth of stuff to talk about. Blog paradise...!

patentdragon: (unexpected)
Yeah, yesterday got mildly crazy, and I went into "weekend coma" mode last night - a day too early, 'cause right now, and against all the laws of common decency, I am AT WORK!

Saturdays at work are not much fun, but at least I got to buy myself a fun lunch *BURP*, and I have plenty of time to relax(-ish) over the lunch break. Thankfully, it's one of the easiest days in a pretty gruelling schedule.

So, what else is there...?

ITEM! It's mid-season finale time for Agents of SHIELD, and could we be about to learn The Shocking Truth about our man Phil Coulson? Given the identity of The Big Bad in AVENGERS 2 (Age of Ultron), I have a strong feeling my suspicions may be about to be proved correct...

*Maybe SPOILER* Coulson isn't just an LMD (life Model Decoy), he's going to be The Vision - remember "Doctor Phineas Horton's Synthetic Man" from the fair in the early stages of Captain America - The First Avenger? That was the World War 2 Human Torch, later used by Ultron - in mainstream continuity - to create the android assassin and later Avenger, The Vision. Plus, with The Scarlet Witch appearing in AVENGERS 2, there's the love of The Vision's life... *end Maybe SPOILER*

ITEM! The 2014 blockbuster trailers are coming in quicker now, with Amazing Spider-Man 2 now hitting our screens in teaser form. The first one of the reboot movies was pretty good, but I get the feeling Sony Pictures are pushing too hard for the big-spectacle AVENGERS audience, totally missing the fact that AVENGERS was the pay-off for a multi-picture arc, not a once-every-two-years blow-out. This movie looks like fun... but maybe TOO MUCH fun?

ITEM! Oh great - Minecraft is being a laggy bitch right now, and that was directly responsible for my last in-game fatality. I may have to slim things down, even though I'm running on a high-memory allowance set-up, and I suspect some unused or non-performing mods may have to go. Or maybe flying around in airships too much is the cause, as my graphics card may be running rather hot recently. I may need a powered external USB hub so that I can fire up (hmmm, bad choice of words) my laptop cooler again...

And finally... Oh lovely; the exam room has been punishingly hot at times, with heating on to combat a cold snap that never fully materialised hereabouts a couple of weeks ago, but now the weather seems to be turning... turning cold and VERY windy. Yuck.
patentdragon: (unexpected)
Yay, it's comic delivery time again, and some pretty major events are either continuing or winding up, as I shall now report...

WARNING! High levels of spoiler contamination ahead! )

Meanwhile, more little snippets are getting out about the Guardians Of The Galaxy movie, and there seems to be a concerted effort to talk up the whole project, whilst keeping as many of its secrets as possible. I am still firmly behind this movie, and I cannot see Marvel Studios dropping the ball after SEVEN movies and a TV series. It's going to work - trust me on this - and "I am Groot" will be the catchphrase of next summer.
patentdragon: (unexpected)
Yes. Oh heavens, yes.

Now, is that an AVENGERS-level "yes"? Not just yet, but you have to start somewhere. I mean, Buffy started with a movie that wasn't exactly stellar, right?

ALERT: Spoilers may follow... )

The Final Verdict... We have a hit, and a definite "drop everything" show for Friday night. I am most intrigued to see what else this show has to offer... 8/10
patentdragon: (unexpected)
It seems that Man Of Steel is a bit of a divisive production, stirring up all kinds of resentment amongst the comic-buying audience, and probably not helping their image very much. So, what's the story...?

WARNING: spoilers ahead! )

The Final Verdict... An excellent choice of leading actor, a skillful retelling of the hero's origins, and a climax to challenge Iron Man 3. DC at last give an answer Marvel's movie supremacy, and it's a strong one. 8.5/10

Elsewhat... Does a 20 minute Minecraft video REALLY take FOUR HOURS to upload? That's most of my evening, and it started not long after I got in!
patentdragon: (unexpected)
Day 2, different "team member" - whole new ball-game, and one that sucked royally. Thank the gods it was only one day... albeit one day too many.

I blew off some steam in Saints Row The Third (video to come), and tomorrow is another day.

On a much more positive note: this...

Bet that goes straight to fnajing Sky TV.

Heeeee's baaaaaack.
patentdragon: (Default)
Yup. Late. So let's not delay...

ITEM! With some more behind-the-scenes material emerging for THOR - The Dark World - and here's even more - next pre-Christmas is going to be pretty awesome!

ITEM! Talking about Christmas - and this Christmas this time - I think I can confidently say that this year's Doctor Who Special will kick the ass of last year's not entirely stellar offering. It actually looks like FUN.

ITEM! This time next week, CSI Miami will be history. Unfortunately, this final season really hasn't shone as you might have thought it would.

ITEM! And Star Trek Online still has me as an active player, thanks to a great fleet. I will not be such an asshole again.

Meant to post this yesterday, but forgot...

Nice one.

I HATE it when there's, for want of a better term, a "communications clog" with a family member. What you say is misinterpreted, and an uncomfortable silence descends... but this time, the evening was saved by, of all things, an unexpectedly empty waste recycling bin. An enquiry about whether the bins had been emptied or not follows, and the log-jam is broken, allowing for any damage to be undone. Phew.

So, that was last night - and so was the hinting at a teaser/trailer for Guillermo del Toro's highly-anticipated robots-vs-monsters blockbuster Pacific Rim. Dammit, I hate these convention reports that mention material we, the home viewers, don't get to see - especially when the director says: (and I quote)

"This has been the best film-making experience I have ever had."

The buzz gets even stronger about this movie. The moment I heard about it, I felt we would be blessed with something truly awesome - maybe even 2013's AVENGERS. I need to see this damn trailer. Something glorious is in the air...

And on that positive note, I end for today. Oh, except for this one little thing: my nephew sure picked the best time to get interested in Godzilla. By the time he's seven, he we may just have a new movie to look forward to...
patentdragon: (Default)
I freely admit to being a Marvel fan of long standing, but that doesn't mean I don't want to see a DC Comics movie do as well as AVENGERS, or even better (and The Dark Knight Rises came pretty close). If the film's good enough, then the accolade is justly deserved... but I just feel that Justice League won't work.

A BIG opinion piece follows... )

P.S. Beasts Of The Southern Wild looks rather interesting...
patentdragon: (Default)
Oooooh-kay... we are reported to be getting a Justice League motion picture in 2015, now that the dispute about the rights to Superman appears to have been resolved.

Nice idea, buuuuuut where's the universe-building? So far, ALL the DC Comics-based movies have stood alone within their respective series - apart from that one time in one of the previous series of Batman movies that The Bat says "This is why Superman works alone." Sorry DC, but AVENGERS and the Marvel Cinematic Universe utterly NAILED IT, and any rush-job will look like a desperate attempt to cash in.

And that would be a BIG shame...

This Just In: BREAKING NEWS about Whedon's SHIELD TV series!

Normal service will be resumed in the morning. And a particularly messy X-COM game, most likely.
patentdragon: (unexpected)
Yeah, I've survived, but if anything is going to make me relocate from my current makeshift office, it's the feeling of being gassed. Not fun.

Meanwhile... I'm looking to see what to spend my AVENGERS BluRay refund on, and there are some pretty awesome solid plastic figures of dragons and such around. Also, "Lil Lady" could do with another outfit...

Also, this... why aren't Channel 4's football games available on demand when the BBC NFL coverage is ALL available on iPlayer, TV AND radio? Are the NFL trying to wean us off Channel 4's coverage? We shall have to see whether the London game (Patriots/Rams) later this month gets better coverage than in previous years - the full game prehaps...?
patentdragon: (Default)
And now I hurt in TWO places...

Warning - this is icky, but not otherwise offensive... )

Yeah, my elbow now looks like a false-colour image of a nebula taken by the Hubble. Sticking a plaster on it was A Bad Idea, it transpires.

Elsewhat... That's the AVENGERS BluRay on its way back to Amazon.

Oh, hold on...

I forgot one book on my "buy a book a month" Task list, and therefore yesterday's buying binge took me to the completion point for Task 29
29 Buy one book a month from an actual bookshop.
Okay, I might not have strictly bought "a book a month", but I did for most of the time, and and the end of it I had purchased 33 books, so that's as good as a *SCORE* for me.

That makes it one-third distance, with one full week to go. This weekend, I'll do some wrap-up, deciding which Mission-long Tasks are done, and which aren't. Right now, I'm scoping out some original comic art - maybe, if I win the auctions, I can snatch a victory, and another *SCORE*...
patentdragon: (Default)
Today, I have been:-

...worrying about my road-rashed elbow from Saturday. It hurts, and it looks pretty angry - maybe I shouldn't have covered it up. Ayah...

...considering which of my Mission 101 Tasks I can now declared completed, now that I'm on the eve of the start of The Last Week. I can now start drawing up the "win/loss" table, and get a better idea of my charity penalty pay-outs. Big cats, not so big cats, and majestic warplanes can expect a share.

...printing off the return labels and sh8 for the AVENGERS BluRay - this sorry tale even made onto the TV, courtesy of BBC's watchdog consumer show. Pity they "tried" to be "funny" - of course you can't reach "The Iron Man" or Captain America for comment, asshole; they're fictional characters. Dumb-ass.

...continuing to find the smartphone to be a handy writing assistant, although I may end up spamming my general use email with revisions of the new Shadow City story. I may have to limit myself to one "port-over" a day, and only using my home net-conn.

Thankfully, this tasty little device survived the Saturday incident with only a scraped casing, which I shall leave as it is, to remind me to PAY ATTENTION ON THE SODDING ROADS. I really wish I'd been able to get one before Operation Haphazard, and set it up for blogging on the move. Yesterday's photos were taken, edited and posted to online hosting all via my new toy... oh, and I navigate around the pages of my phone's home-screen by gently stroking the belly of Storm of the X-Men...

So, What's Next...? More writing, I guess, and Ultima Online tonight. One of the online video rental places have sent me a mail-shot, and given the AVENGERS mess, I might just sign up so I can rent the BluRay for free, then continue with the service, as I'd been planning to try out those kinds of services for a while now. Talk about expert timing...
patentdragon: (Default)
*deep breath - and exhale...*

is being returned to Amazon, unopened. This brazen rip-off carried out by Disney must not go unchallenged. I mean, look at this...

THAT is all the bonus material you get on this BluRay - and wasn't there supposed to be MORE special features on the higher capacity disks? We are talking THE THIRD HIGHEST GROSSING MOVIE OF ALL TIME, people - and this is no way to treat either this fine movie, or the fans in the UK who got it before the US, and helped make it the monster hit it's been, to the tune of £51.8 MILLION.
patentdragon: (Default)

Today, I sent in the September comic order, nine days before its due date - and completed Mission 101 Task 42: Get comic orders in early. This was one that was easiest to complete, but took longer than most. I would've added a special prize for completing the Task, but as my "fails" are likely to outnumber my *SCORE*s, I don't think that is warranted. We'll see how things are this time next year, as the "gap year" winds down.

I think I may actually call Mission 101.1 "The Gap Year". It kind of fits.

Meanwhile... The story surrounding the AVENGERS home release gets more and more annoying. Now, it seems, there will be NO director's commentary on the UK DVD/BluRay - perhaps the only commentary I might actually want to play. Grrrrr...

Still no sign of delivery. *sighs* I'll still watch it, commentary or no, spear-tip or no.

Development News... Writing is starting to pick up - via smartphone! I have a text editor app that does all I need it to do, and I email myself each version as I finish work on it. A Shadow City episode for the run-in to WORLDS COLLIDE is underway!
patentdragon: (Default)
It's been a "down-time" day, where some plans didn't quite make it off the drawing board. Writing? Nah, not quite - although I can confirm the smartphone is now geared for writing support, and does its job pretty well. Charity research? Well, I'm certainly sending some monetary support to the good people keeping Vulcan XH558 in the air, and the Highland Wildcat seems to be in greater danger than previously. Post-holiday tidying-up? Errrr, I have to say "pass" on that... or "Yes, I am a lazy bastard."

Elsewhat... Why are even repeats of Family Guy so damn compelling? Could be something to do with the musical genius of creator Seth Macfarlane...

Hey, what the fuck? The UK home release of Avengers features an altered key scene? First a fucked-up title, now this? Oh please SPARE ME.

Whedon Returns For "Avengers 2," Developing Marvel Television Show

SHIELD TV series, I'm thinking...

Definite Lottery Win Goodies - Four-metre-tall Japanese robot shoots bottle rockets, costs £860k. A robot you can ride around in...

From the same source - - an amusing tale of a French company attempting to trademark the logo and slogan of "hackivists" Anonymous, to which the pushy little cyber-brats respond by "waging war" on the company with one of their "#Ops". Jeez, make your frigging minds up, willya? Are you against trademarks and copyrights or not? Isn't everything supposed to be, well, y'know, like FREE and "open source" for everyone? Hey, apparently no indidvidual is actually ALLOWED to own an idea, a SONG, a GAME or a MOVIE in Anonymous-World - we're all "sharing" (i.e. taking whatever we want for nothing, and crying "corporate imperialism" whenever you get caught STEALING)... aren't we?

Hypocrisy. Oh, and they still hide behind masks. Pussies.

And to think that, instead of his pussy-ism, you guys could've gotten behind my "I Am Groot Day" idea yesterday, to mark exactly two years until the release of GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY. Remember, pop-pickers, this movie is (or has to be) our "in-road" into the legend of THANOS.

I believe. After AVENGERS, how could I not...?
